Dick C: thanks very much for the kind words. Glad I could bring you some visual pleasure. I like your message about not needing algebra...though I would probably have said Trigonometry. Have a great weekend and stay well. jak

I was a machine tool programmer back in my career, I worked at NARockwell in Tulsa, and took several courses on Descriptive Geometry, I needed it for the airforms of the planes, but never needed any algebra; everything could be described on MasterCam...it did the algebra!! LOL
As to the Sequoia, when I lived in Colorado I raised Seq plants by the hundreds and gave them to Cub/Boy/scouts, Highlanders/etc. to plant them along the Eastern slope of the Rockies; they called me the "Johnny Appleseed of the Sequoia", don't know how many survived, as I live in WA state and am pushing 82 with cancer I'll probably never know!!

Dick, you’ve got me interested in Sequoias in the Rocky Mountains now. I’m going to do some research to see if there is information on if they are thriving and where. Sorry to hear about your health problems. I’ve lost a wife and a fiancé to cancer, so I don’t take that litely. Take good care of yourself. I hope you are able to find enjoyment and fulfillment in life. Are you able to do photography? So be good to yourself an take care. Jak

Thanks Jak, might be hard to find out about the Seqs, I talked to one of the scout leaders a few years ago and he said the kids planted them in such a random area that he didn't remember where they were! I can only hope their okay. I gave 3 trees (10" tall) to a friend over at the gun club in1999 and he said they were nearly 20 feet tall now!! I have a 10" tree going right now that I'm not sure what to do with it, I don't have room for it to grow to 150' or more tall in my lifetime, may only have a couple years to go.
My first wife died at 33 in 1977, that ended my cigarette career and my ex died a couple years ago (we weren't together then) from lung cancer, thank God my current wife has never smoked!!
I do photography but not like years ago when I had my darkroom and did 16x20 B&W with my Pentax 6X7!!

Genus and species. There are two redwoods. Sequoiadendron giganteum and Sequoia sempervirens. Each lives in an environment to which they are genetically adapted. I have seen the giganteum in Europe but not the sempervirens. There is no reason not to try but don't be disappointed if they don't survive. In Colorado try the giganteum or Sierra Redwood. I doubt the Coast Redwood has chance in Colorado, it's range has stayed in the North Coast of California in the fog zone. With a lot of water you can grow them in areas outside the fog zone but don't expect them to be 150 feet tall in your life time, if they even survive that long. Redwood is one of the fastest growing trees in the world, as well as the largest.

I doubt if my efforts were successful, but even if only one survived I would be happy; and it gave lots of kids pride and kept them out of trouble for awhile---I'm happy!!

I worked in the Mt. Home Demonstration State Forest. Even working there every day, one has to feel the presence of God. Sounds as though you visited a part of this Forest, if you went to Balch Park-a County Park. Personally, I think you made a good choice by visiting the National, State, and County managed forests.

I can't get out to see the forests, damned old cancer has got me beat! Have lots of pin, conifer, and fir on my place, they give me some delight!
