Need to upgrade my canon

Just wondering if anyone could give me a good idea what the best decision would be on stepping up my Canon. Currently I operate a rebel T2i. I already have investments made in to canon lenses but I am looking to upgrade my body as I am getting in to photography a little more as a business. I mostly do portraiture and not so much landscapes, but want the versatility of being able to take it everywhere, not just in studio. I want to make the investment in a long term body and upgrade lenses as I go if needed, but mostly want to invest in a body I won't want to be replacing in a few years.
I feel very comfortable operating canon cameras so I would like to stick with that brand. Is the Canon 5d mark III the way to go?

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dsmarkiii have a look at the Canon 1Ds MkIII at this sight. But you'll need deep pockets. To answer the 5DMkIII is also an excellent camera.

Will the current lenses I have for my rebel work with either model?

If all you have are AFS lenses, you will need to upgrade as they will not work with the 5D.

My finger slipped- EFS, not AFS.

Here is the lineup of lenses from Canon.
The 5D takes EF lenses, but not EFS.

Get the Canon 1Ds Mark III, a 24-70 f/2.8L and a 70-200 f/2.8L. I would even add a fixed 85mm f/1.8. You'll also need a good flash (maybe two). Keep your T2i as a backup camera. If you are on a budget, then the 5D MK III is a good alternative. Good luck.

1DsIII - $7300
24-70 f/2.8L - $2600
70-200 f/2.8L - $2600

Canon 5DIII - $3500 maybe two of these
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM - $530
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM - $530
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens - $700
Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 with Softfocus - $580

$13,500 vs less than $6000

I bought the Canon 5D mark III with the Canon battery grip for just under 3400 and I love it. Still haven't figured out all the features on it but I'm working on it

He didn't specify: "I already have investments made in to canon lenses "

That's why I brought up the fact that if he didn't have EF lenses already he'd need them if he went with the 5D he asked about.

I would love to have 7D (I have a T1i) - all your lenses would work, but if you need to make 16 x 20 and larger prints you'll probably want that 5D III or the latest 1D model. The 85 mm 1.8 would be a nice portrait lens.

I would seriously look into a 5D mark II but you will need to sell those lenses and upgrade.
The Mark III is nice but the rule of diminishing returns is in full effect on that compared to the II.
Canon is even offering an instant 400 dollar rebate to clear the II's and the price on a brand new one is $1799 compared to the III's 3450 price tag which is simply incredible.
The 7d is also a really great camera that is extremely well built and will suffice doing pro work.

Yes. I think this would be a fine investment in equipment for the style of shooting you do.
