You can add a bit more to the edges that looks like hair to me too.

#2 for me......#1 is just not appealing to me....??? Thanks Allan.
Sincere thanks to all those who responded. Comments were frank and constructive -- exactly what I wanted. Some suggestions now seem obvious to me -- e.g., some texture on the leaves -- but I was oblivious, and will work on them. Burning and dodging small features in the trunks to uncover an image of a face is a great idea, and I will see what I can do here also.
Thanks again
Allan
I like the depth and contrast of #1.
I prefer the #2 image. The light leaves give a sense of scale.
Number 2. I like the sketch filter look whether or not it is intentional. I think the white leaves add an interesting offset to the black hole. I also would tighten the crop on the left side and clone out the white patch below the hole.

I might like these better if they weren't so over sharpened. If this was the intention my apologies. It also appears that you are taking your art to the Georgia O'Keeffe level. Did you notice the similarities? Hint: Looks like a vagina. They are good photos just a little bit over processed.
There have been a couple of comments about over-sharpening. I am probably guilty. I liked the way these looked, but will try turning it down and see what I think.
And I love Cyber's suggestion that there is a similarity to Georgia O'Keefe! I consider that a compliment, but have to admit that I was not thinking along these lines.
Finally, there have been a lot of comments, and all were helpful. I very much appreciate that so many took the time to give their views and suggestions.

#1 for me. Perfect illustration of the power of b&w
