In most situations like this, the long-term benefits of your generous act will outweigh the short-term pain of paying for it. Ultimately the gift will long be remembered and the cost will soon be forgotten. In most situations.......

As a female, I can easily spend 2 and 1/2 hours just debating whether to buy something or not. The rest of the time is spent driving to and from the store/stores. Of course, this was before Covid19.
That's what drove me crazy about shopping with my wife. Every item had to be handled, examined, and evaluated. Shopping for clothing was especially annoying, as I stood outside the changing room holding her pocketbook.
When I shop, I have a list, and I spend very little time in the store.

Wilsons Leather is closing their stores by the end of the year. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I shopped at their Branson store at the outlet mall, I spent more than I should have. She saw something she liked but didn't buy it, and she told me she wanted it but it cost too much.
Today she had to go to Springfield for something so I told her she should drive the extra few miles to Branson and get what she wanted at Wilsons Leather. Since she wouldn't spend that much on herself I handed her a credit card and said, I kid you not, "Buy what you want for your birthday (in 2 weeks) and put it on the card. You won't spend that much on yourself but I will, so it's on me."
She called when she headed for Branson and said she would call when she left to come home. 3 1/2 hours later (three and a half hours) she calls and says she is leaving Branson. I can just imagine the shopping spree she went on.
Some things you just don't learn after 38 years.

I guess we're nearly neighbors. We're in Oakland, Arkansas.
It's a hunter/gatherer phenomena. Men are hunters; they know what they want, go out, see it, bag it and are done. Women are gatherers, they pursue a range of things each of which must be assessed, measured, weighed and acquired along with anything else that may be useful. It's a process, not an end in itself.

That's what I do now too. I don't shop for clothes, especially now. I make a list of food items or must haves, then I figure out the fastest route to my destination. I'm a reasonably slow driver when on the road, but when I get in a store, I grab what I need, then I pass everyone as fast as my bum knee will let me.
Prenuptial agreement,....works better.
