Wilsons Leather is closing their stores by the end of the year. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I shopped at their Branson store at the outlet mall, I spent more than I should have. She saw something she liked but didn't buy it, and she told me she wanted it but it cost too much.
Today she had to go to Springfield for something so I told her she should drive the extra few miles to Branson and get what she wanted at Wilsons Leather. Since she wouldn't spend that much on herself I handed her a credit card and said, I kid you not, "Buy what you want for your birthday (in 2 weeks) and put it on the card. You won't spend that much on yourself but I will, so it's on me."
She called when she headed for Branson and said she would call when she left to come home. 3 1/2 hours later (three and a half hours) she calls and says she is leaving Branson. I can just imagine the shopping spree she went on.
Some things you just don't learn after 38 years.

If you didn't get an urgent text from your credit card company saying there was unusually high amounts being charged or you had grossly over extended your line of credit ------- you'll survive!

My wife often uses that phrase...and when she says it, I know spending is involved!
Jim,
Kiss her, thank her for getting something(s) she liked, and be thankful for her. Remember, you can not take it with you...I have never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse.

You made the right decision and some year you will get over it! I always say there is at least one sucker in each happy marriage and some times the parties take turns so this time it is you. Possibly next time it will be her and she will get you that new boat (or what ever) you have been thinking about.
When I first got married, 54 years ago, a dear family friend and I were talking. He was much older than I at the time, crap he still is, but that's another story. Anyway, we were talking about how expensive something my wife wanted. He said to me "peace at any price". That was, like I said 54 years ago. It's a motto I've tried to live by all these years and so far it's worked. In the grand scale of things what's a few dollars here or there to make your wife happy for her birthday and she'll remember forever. And you'll just be a little lighter in the pocket book. Just say Happy Birthday when she gets home :)
By the way, thanks for sharing this....I've lived thru scenerio's very simular to this too. I feel your pain, but in the long run let it go and life will be good.
But she's gonna be a HAPPY woman when she gets home, Jim.

Be happy. You did the right thing. She is worth it.
As a female, I can easily spend 2 and 1/2 hours just debating whether to buy something or not. The rest of the time is spent driving to and from the store/stores. Of course, this was before Covid19.

That's evidently what she did. She bought a nice jacket and a nice case for her MacBook.
