Need recommendation for what software to obtain to make a monthly calendar (81/2X11) the bottom
half would show the days of the month and at the top half a photo of my own that I would import.
I used photoshop. To make life a bit easier you can use templates that can be downloaded.
There are probably many YouTube tutorials on that for the commonly used postprocessing apps.

I agree with you. While Photoshop can make a good calendar, if the user's PS skills aren't fairly well developed, it'll be an exercise in frustration.
There are oodles of places out there to make calendars.

I've been doing that for a couple of years now, using Open Office, I've posted one or two in the past.

Last time I did that I used a word processing program. Printed on 11 x 17 paper. Top half had a photo, bottom half a calendar. Double sided printing, stapled in the middle of the 17" length giving 8.5 x 11 for the calendar and the photo.
I think that was in 1994.
Costco has inexpensive calendars and you can customize. Priced very reasonably too.
I dislike intruding on the Do-It-Yourselfers' pleasure. . However, I've really enjoyed the State Farm Insurance calendars over the years. . Wildlife; Norman Rockwell; Fish; National Parks; a wonderful variety of choice photographs by some of the world's best! AND, they are spiral bound to hang nicely on the wall. Different widths, also (to fit in different wall spaces)
[I thought it would be OK to mention these since many Hoggers share similar photographs on this forum. . .]

Sometimes (as in my case) production of a calendar is not just something to hang about the house. It's a PR tool for an organization for which you volunteer. A way to raise money for the cause.
