Last month, I bought a D4 on MPB for $1250. Excellent condition with 64,000 clicks. You may need to keep on shopping.

I wouldn't worry about a scam. Assuming the shutter is rated to 400,000, there's plenty of life left in the body. What you may find though is the pro D4 body is large and heavy and the 16MP images may look 'great' but are rather limited in their cropping opportunities. Compared to what you can do with the D850, you may come to realize $1500 was actually way too much for the limited capabilities of an older digital camera.

Don't worry so much about the "measly" 16mp. The flagship D5 and now D6 only have 20.8mp.

The photographer who did the portrait of my daughter for for her wedding shot a D4 and the portraits came out very nicely. He also shot rodeo photos in the west with D4's and they were very sharp. It could be that the larger pixels of this series provides not only great low-light photography but sharpness as well.

Hedgehog family, I'm in the market for a D4 just because I want one, not that I need one. I have a D500 and a D850 so this D4 would just be something to shoot with from time to time. I have spotted one on eBay with 133,500 shutter count that the seller says is in very good condition. He purchased the camera from National Camera Exchange so it's an American camera. The seller was asking $2400. or best offer so I offered $1500 and he quickly accepted the offer. Now I'm having second thoughts because he accepted the offer so quickly. I just need you guys and gals opinion. I think the camera is worth the offer I made if it's in the condition that he describes. Your thoughts please.

He might have realize $2400 was too much to ask for the camera.

Thank you for your response and honest opinion. What actually started this was a guy that I watch often on Youtube who goes by the name of the ugly photographer. The guy is brilliant and was giving some specs on the camera and I knew that there wouldn't be much room for cropping with this camera. I'm not trying to justify the purchase because that's always easy when you want somethinhg. I just want to make sure that the camera is worth the offer.

He goes by the name of “Angry” Photographer, not “Ugly” Photographer, but he’s the first to admit he’s a little hard on the eyes.

Only advice I would give you is to spend some time shopping around. You’ve already gotten a suggestion from someone in this thread pointing you to another camera with far fewer actuations for the same price. Have fun, and enjoy the hunt.

Which brings up a question....why doesn't the D5 and D6 have the same sensor as the D850 if that's the case?

D5 & D6 are built for speed.

That seller may have been so quick because they are efficient. Perhaps they decided a quick sale beats a long auction. Ebay also has a lot of protections in place for buyers. I would not assume that there is anything wrong with the camera. If you want it, and consider $1500 a good price, then just go ahead and get it and stop doubting yourself. Enjoy!

Thanks for your response and advise. I just purchased the camera and will send it to a certified Nikon repair facility to have it examined. I do think it's a good price if the camera is as advertised; it has 133k shutter clicks.

Just out of curiosity, if you made the offer formally on eBay, aren’t you required to go through with the offer unless the seller also formally lets you out if it?

True. But think low light. D4 images are much better at high ISO

Well, I think the seller was not being totally honest about the camera because when I told him that my intentions were to have the camera examined by a certified Nikon repair facility, he responded with a very ugly email and he cancelled the order and returned my money. So, that tells me that something was wrong with the camera that he wasn't willing to expose.

For what it's worth, I just traded in an extremely well cared-for D4S with 13,000 shutter clicks. I received $1325 for the trade and was satisfied knowing that I didn't have to sell online or ship. The local camera store advertised it for $1799. However, a week later, they offered 15% off all used gear. The camera was sold for $1529. That store sold that camera with warranty for essentially the same price that you are paying presumably without a warranty. A good rule of thumb is that camera stores (b&h, adorama, keh, etc.) will buy your equipment for roughly 70% of what they will sell it for. So, if buying from a private seller, plan to offer approximately 70% of what you are seeing it selling used for on one of those sites as that is all the seller will get.

If you read between the lines, it's not worth it ... You can buy more camera or the same 16MP for a whole lot less. What do you envision shooting at 11 fps vs the capabilities of the D500 or D850?

I wouldn't say it isn't worth it, I have the D4 which is fabulous in low light, it also is built like a tank and can take punishment.
