I certainly understand. We each relate to other’s problems and decisions in our own way. My approach to problems is usually getting angry with myself, and working harder to resolve them. Time and other interests often interfere, and as others have said above, sometimes it’s necessary to set something aside for a rest, and come back to it with fresh eyes and attitude.
Within Photography, I, as an advanced amateur, mostly have a problem with what to do with the enormous prints I deeply enjoy creating. There is only so much wall space... so rotate them around, and enjoy the memory of having created each when it’s turn comes up.
I’m certain we all wish you well, and will welcome you back if one day you choose to return!

If you enjoy making images of the world around you and whatever interests you- people, places, nature, and, birds, sports activities, architecture, bugs, your family and loved ones, old cars, new cars, all the rest is a bunch of technobabble, gadgetry, overly sophisticated systems all of which have little to do with art or craft. Lingo, nomenclature, fancy terminology- who cares? What are you, in high school studying for the exams?

Post-processing? Believe me, there are simple apps that you can utilize on a cell phone or tablet. If you'd don't wanna mess around with complex software, look up FastStone Image Viewer- I can teach a chimpanzee to use that in half an hour and you can post-process your head off! It's a free download on your PC or laptop.

Linsten- folks change their hobbies frequently- some even change careers several times in a lifetime. The final decision is up to you. Good luck!

Hi to all you shutterbugs. After long and hard thinking. I have decided to leave photography as my hobby. I will say this I have enjoyed shooting images and post processing my images myself. I could not figure out how to reduce raw files to jpegs. As it really is not self explanatory. So. I will leave all of this new tech to the younger set. And if the folks that do understand it. I really do salute you. I wish all you Hedgehogs the best with your shooting. And by all means be well and be safe. I will still look and admire the images that are taken on this site. After reading through the comments and "advice" of others here, I get the impression that most are trrying to change the mind and opinion of Fiddlingbill. The decision is his and his alone. None of us should be trying to change his choice, we should support him and wish him well in his future.

I gotta call the BS card. Your decision, but I think something else is afoot here. I taught my 92 year old Great Aunt how to use a PC, get online in chats, use email and post photos. She was on line up until she suddenly passed away at 101 years old.

Stop dreaming and learning and you die or mentally drift away. IMHO.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving probably isn't for you! (LOL)!
Having said that, I fully understand why you are doing that. I, personally am quitting on my DSLR's, the digital thing ain't working out for me as much as I hoped, so I am going back to good old film! I will soon post all of the digital stuff here for a fire sale. 3 Pentax plus some lenses and a flash unit. Good luck to you and just have fun with what ever you do!

All....I think there's something else afoot here, tied to personality or life in general. I certainly get that technology / terminology can be difficult and off-putting (I find myself banging my head against the wall over 3D software and have bailed on it 3 times before I just gave up on the idea), but the reason he give may just be the culmination of several digital photography related issues. He might just be tired...

I also notice he's not responded to any of several good suggestions the group has offered...

I wish him the best!

I sorry I don't buy your post. I am 75 And I not a big fan of digal cameras. Yes I do have a digal camera, Sony's DSC-H1 ( I known it old-2005) But for what I need it for, it is great. Don't ask me what the hell people are writing about with new tech in cameras. To hell with all this tech in cameras. I still into film cameras. Just three weeks ago I found at two yard sales the following cameras: Petri Fiex 7 with Petri's 55mm lens and a Soligor's 350 mm lens. Camera's body and lenses both working find. Have not tested it yet with film. The other camera is a Yashica Lynx 14 with Yashica's lens 1:1.4 45mm lens and leather case that goes with the camera. I am testing the camera with film in it. By the way I pay $20.00 for the two of them. Don't give up to high tech cameras. Do what I am doing using film cameras.

Quit this fantastic hobby, No Way!
I am 81, have been at this since my Dad gave me an Argus C3 when I was 10. Times do change in between then and now but we adjust and keep up. I had my Dad for help at first, along with countless others later on. I don't know it all, never will! BUT...that's all part of this great hobby, share, learn, do. Geez, I now have had the best of cameras and every kind of software there is to use. I pick and choose features from all of them when needed. I still do film, absolutely love B&W from medium format as well as 35s. I have used the top stuff from Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Zeiss, Mamiya and many others over the years. You never, never lose the thirst for more knowledge, another way to do things, a better shot, another approach or perspective. And do ya know what? It is all worth it. Out of all the life pictures I have taken, ALL of them were worthy of taking. Some are greater than others but everyone of them was FUN to take.
All of these 70 plus years of Photography are part of me. I plan to Do, Keep going and Learn until they put me in a box...Never Quit! If there is something you can't figure out, ASK. Everyone on this forum can and to offer to help. That's why we are here.
Thanks for reading my two cents I of words!
Bill

But you've only been a member here since March 29, 2020. And you've never asked for any help from other members, many of which are just waiting for you to ask. So I don't really think you are too serious about photography to begin with. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong. I'm often wrong. Converting a file from RAW to Jpeg is not difficult to do, but it is totally unnecessary. As others have mentioned, simply shoot in jpeg mode. Problem solved.

Gonna miss your input, but you know what is best for you. I'v been a photographer since the late '50s, found it challenging from the first, been a teacher, photojournalist, and have found it more challenging since going digital about 15 years ago!
I'm always learning stuff; like yesterday, I read and tried to understand two very well written articles on using flash and Auto ISO. Frustrating, trying to wrap my 20th Century mind around 21st Century technology and "inspeak"... but, with sites like this and others, I find ways to enjoy photography even today. Several other hobbies have gone by the wayside, but this magical pastime of endures. Best of luck to you!
