Enjoy your D90. It is a reliable piece of equipment. I shoot Canon so my experience with Nikon is limited. For many years I loved film. It seemed to me the best at conveying my imagination. I used different films including Ilford, CN400 and Portra. Then the digital age came along and I purchased a Canon 5D
It was convenient, hassle free and quite intoxicating. But I must say I was lured by the Megapixel Myth. Cameras that a higher megapixel were our of my wallet’s reach. So I managed and realized that megapixels is the least I should be concerned about. Sure buying a Hasselblad with a humongous megapixel quality and a huge price tag, was out of my reach.
I’m more concerned about other features that a camera can offer. While a Nikon D6 or a Canon 1Dx are beautiful machines they are way too much camera for this hobbyist like me.
Happy Shooting!

Hello Hoggers
I just acquired my first digital camera. An older Nikon D90 (12mp). What kind of results can I expect from it, print sizes, etc?
Thanks
I have owned a D90 and found it to be a good camera with good details rendered. Never had any issues with it and used it as a back-up for 6 years. I gave it to a friend's daughter who was attempting to become a photographer and couldn't afford to purchase a DSLR and she's still using it and with good results.
Like Linda suggests......get the best glass you can for it and concentrate on technique and you'll get remarkable images from it. Good luck and welcome aboard.
I agree with you completely, I like digital but I love film and as long as it is available I will use it. Now there are some times when digital or electronics will be more adventurous, but there is something about the process of watching a print appear on paper in the soup that digital can't replace.
I never used the D90, some of my friends had it and they were happy with it. The D90 has plenty of Mp. to make excellent enlargements, assuming you do your part when shooting.
If the camera is working to factory specs it will reward you with excellent images.

Unless the camera is malfunction in some way (dirty sensor etc...) you should think that the performance of the D90 was good enough for a great number of photographers back in 2008. If so why it's not good enough today?
This is the exact reasoning I had when I purchased a Nikon D750 last November during the crazy sales.

You do some fantastic work already in film, why would you go to digital?

Thank you. Quality glass is not an issue. Just new to digital.
Thanks 🙏
I used to have one myself. The D90 is a great camera; depending on which lenses you use, and how you use them, you can do wonderful things. I do a lot of travel myself, and when I go to a new place, always take a lot of pictures - some I've blown up to 20x30 (inches) and made into pictures for my walls - many with that camera. Just have fun with the camera!
12 MP is fine. Early digitals were 1, 2, 3 +_ 5 MP. It is important to set the camera for the highest resolution and least compression to use the full quality.
I can't answer for the OP but for me I went digital because there are fewer films available. I can't get developer for either C41 or RA-4 which I need to shoot film. The cost of both films and processing became excessive. No more convenient places to buy and to have film processed.
Otherwise I would be happy shooting film like I used to but shooting film today isn't anything like it used to be.
As I said 35mm film was good enough for me 43 years ago it's good enough for me now. I don't have any more needs than when I started.

Ahhh, first digital camera Whata hoot. I remember mine
My first digital camera was a Kodak DC280Z, 2.3 Mp.
A grandaughter stole a digital version and had gave
me a framed 12X36 cityscape print at Christmas a
couple years ago. It looks fine at 6 feet.
Nikon D90 is an excellent machine. 12 MP is plenty, do not be misled my current "megapixel madness".
