While you're in that neck of the woods it's only a short hop to the Apostle Islands which my grad school roommate pointed me toward on my first trip to the UP by myself (I also got a Yooper keyholder which handily fits around my neck while I'm running errands so I don't have to worry about having all my keys so visible).
Can you share more about the Apostle Islands? Images? Accommodations? If none, best place to stay?

Bond Falls is great no doubt, but if you are coming from the east I would spend most of your time in the Pictured Rocks area, Munising, for more waterfalls, more variety, and more photoscenics. Arch on the water taken from the Pictured Rocks boat cruise.
I would second this suggestion. If you can book a sunset cruise for Pictured Rocks you won't regret it. Additionally, as Fotoartist stated, there are many waterfalls in the area that can keep you busy for quite some time. It's a beautiful area particularly in the the fall. I grew up in the UP and have visited and photographed all of the areas suggested by others including Bond Falls and they're all great. If this is a first trip, however, this would be the area I'd choose. Have a ball and share your results.
I know you said Lake Superior, but the UP isn't very wide. If you go across it to the south side (Lake Michigan), there's a tiny town called Gulliver that has a great picturesque light house. Seul Choix lighthouse. It's haunted. My friends and I went there at dusk and did see the ghost. (Of course, we had wine with dinner before that . . . )

There is a one day scenic train trip out of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada which is great.
While the train trip north of Sault Ste. Marie to Agawa Canyon is very scenic with many opportunities for photos as is the highway 17 north that follows the lakeshore of Superior. But I'm afraid that for you Yanks this area is a No-No at this time. Because of the "Virus" the border between our common border is closed tight at the moment for all except essential travelers. And sight-seeing I'm afraid does not fit that description. The closure date was just extended to the 21st of September and considering what is going on in the USA with the virus I cannot see it opening at all til sometime in 2021 or until youse guys get it under control somewhat.
Sad but true but the 80% of the citizens of Canada at the present time do not want the border to open.
So, the UP is where you will be and there are many many excellent places along all the Great Lakes that will satisfy your cravings.

Cant blame you guys....it is a mess down here. But plenty to see in the UP.
I agree with all the suggestions given. The Pictured Rocks Boat Tour is a must. I don't know how much time you have or whether you want to hike, but there are trails along the Pictured Rocks also. Lake of the Clouds at the far west end of the UP in the Porcupine Mountains is great, especially in the fall. If time is limited then Pictured Rocks, the nearby water falls, and upper and lower Tahquamenon Falls. All in the eastern and mid UP and will limit your driving and maximize your shutter time. Have a great trip and show us your photos!
Pictured Rocks, as others here have noted, is not to be missed. Fall is just around the corner so, depending on when you go, you could be in for a real treat. I did a kayak trip in August a few years ago.....for a water view of the bluffs that give this area it's name.....I have attached one of dozens of keepers from that day.....
Right. I forgot about the quarantine.
My bad.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have made the trip to Bayfield, WI and did the boat ride around the Apostle Islands with an old friend. We have as perfect a late September afternoon as was possible for the boat ride.

I used to go to Rice Lake in the Keewanau area when I was in high school fishing with my Dad. What a great time. Would love to get back there.
Lake of the Clouds is a beautiful area.

And the better shots will be on the right side as you walk up. Love da UP!
Gotta love the UP for sure! Soon after leaving a quaint little resort/hotel in Land O Lakes WI. and crossing into the UP I saw a homemade plywood sign at a gas station that advertised "bear bait". A little further up the road a bird hit my windshield, it was a BIG bird! As it was raining I figure it was struggling to stay aloft. Took out my wiper blade. All just another memory of a great road trip adventure! Yes I was on the right side and plan to do it all over again a little later in the fall this year.
The state's slogan "Pure Michigan" is for a reason. We live in northern Wisconsin and often head to the UP. In fact, we made the round trip today. Along with endless opportunities for photographers, the clean air, lack of congestion, and the feeling of "wilderness" make for an exhilarating experience. All the spots mentioned are great; and there are places you will just stumble upon that will make you want to stay forever; well, maybe be out of there by winter ...

Not far from Lake Superior is Bond Falls, about 45 minutes south of Ontonagon, MI. I’ve been there several times, and the falls are beautiful. Google Bond Falls to see if you would have an interest.
I did a Photoshoot for Tahquanemon Falls last year, but I have friends that live in Copper Harbor and I will be at Bond Falls in two weeks. Bond Falls are actually my Favorite. I waded in the water one year and shot Bond in the center of my shots. You nailed it with your statement about how beautiful it really is. Plus, The Pasties are the total package while up there.
Nice option - Porcupine Mtns - not so far from Bond Falls and south of Ontonagan. Go to north side of the park to Visitor Center. Great hike from there takes you up along a “mountain” side - very open as you are up in rocks and low bush. Down below is Lake of the Clouds. Great opportunity for photos all along. If you get to end of lake, turn back. That whole hike is not too rigorous or lengthy, and gets you great views all along the trail.
