I've had slides (400-500) around since the mid sixties. I found a Kodak Carousel with all accessories on Craig's List. I used it to cull my collection down to the ones that I wanted. Two weeks after I bought it I sold it on Craig's list for the same price that I paid for it to a fellow that's been carrying hundreds of slides around since the mid sixties!! He intends to do the same thing. Now I'm going to do the same with an 8 and a super-8 so I can see which movies I want Walgreen's to put on a DVD for me. Where there's a will...
Look in Thrift Stores , if you find one, check it out before you buy , those bulbs are expensive.
I have probably a few miles of 8mm movie film taken by my father who died in 1966. I also have his old 8mm projector. For obvious reasons, I will not part with it but will hopefully pass it on to one of my sons or grandsons someday. The film and projector are for what was referred to as "regular 8 movie film." That indicated the film was actually 16mm wide and was run through the camera twice, after the first time through the reel was turned over and then run through again so the film was exposed only on one half of it at a time. I can remember my Dad showing films with the projector when I was around six years old (currently 73) and he'd had it for several years by then. The projector still operated well and I can show the movies against a white sheet or wall.
I wish you great luck with finding a projector or editor to review the old films. May you find some really old treasured memories there.
I had costco digitize all the film I had. They put it on a DVD and I made copies for all the kids. Now everyone can laugh and enjoy.
Well, you are about a day early... There is an outfit called Legacy which will digitise old 8mm film, but it takes a long time. I sent them several 200ft reels of 8mm in may and got notice of tomorrows delivry about an hour ago... I think the cost was aobut $75 for three or four 200 ft rolls...... I will advise you of details..... Ed
I did not know Cosco would do it...I thank someone for that. I have a Kodak Carosel laying around here which works very well with the digital camera and without the Carosel lens, but I have so many slides that I worry about the shutter count Canon 5 mrk IV!! When I think of the cost of those slides!, I used to get 3 rolls of 35mm film with processing for $10. Digital photography has taken us a long way..

I located a bunch of old 8mm home movies from the 1960s. I don't have and can't locate a projector to view them And I don't want to have them converted without seeing what is on them.
I also can't locate an 8mm film editor. So my question is...
Does anyone have any unique method that I might use to get a look at them... considering no projector or editor??
Thanks
Barry
I have an 8mm projector still in the box. A Chinon 3000GL. Interested?
Look on shopgoodwill.com for 8mm editor or 8mm projector. They are listed quite frequently and usually end up costing under $20 including shipping. It is one of my favorite sites for photo bargains.

I wish you luck in this endeavor. I hope that someone has a projector in working order. I did many years but it didn’t survive a house fire. So when I found some old super 8mm film, I had a local store owner convert it to DVD. I am satisfied with the results.
Happy Shooting!
AWW, spring for the bux, cd's store a lot easier than old film and movie projectors..

Thanks. That projector looks good.
Here's where I am at this point.
I don't quite know what's on the films and as a result... I'm not yet anxious to put much money into it... till I know. And a (now) 87... I'm not looking a long term solutions.
Someone has offered me an 8mm film editor that will allow me to (at least) see the films... admittedly at small size. Once I have a better picture of it all... I'll better know what direction I want to go... even if it's no direction at all.
I've gotten a lot of suggestions from UHH and locally. I haven't seen the films for probably 50 years. I guess there's no rush.
I'll keep your contact info should I better decide how to proceed.
Thanks as lot.
Barry
