Some excellent photos there, Father Jack, and a nice explanatory narrative, too--enjoyed.

Periodically visit the Charterhouse of the Transfiguration in Arlington, VT to teach. A rare privilege. Because I stay on the mountain during these three to four day swings I have access during times when it is closed to public (open between 9 and 5 from Memorial day or so to sometime in November depending on the snow/ice situation. Last car is allowed up at 4:30. The trip to the summit is 5.6 miles at a 12% grade with some terrifying hairpin turns, particularly on the way down. I generally do not drive up until no one else is on the mountain.

The skies last night were spectacular. Thunderstorms to the north had no effect on Equinox except for great clouds.

A really fine set. I drove up Mt. Equinox in my 1966 Mustang in 2005. It overheated and I had to let it cool off before going back down. There was an abandoned restaurant atop the mountain. I stopped at a "Monastery Overlook" and got a shot of that complex. Thank you for identifying it for me -- I have updated the description in my Flickr Collection.

Thanks for looking and commenting. It is a remarkable tract of land. What's not to like about the Green Mountains (Ver Mont)?

Thanks. I put #2 into the end of my lecture yesterday. Monks liked it too. Put the 300 mm lens on the camera before heading back to my quarters just in case the deer was out again. Alas. One more chance tomorrow.

Not surprised the Mustang overheated. I turned 16 in 1965. We lived next door to a Ford dealership. There it was, the 1965 red Mustang convertible in the showroom window. Would dad buy one for his twin sons? Nooooooo. I finally forgave him. The abandoned restaurant at the top is now a small museum explaining the Carthusian order. It has four observation decks one on each side on each level. I've only been in the museum once as I am generally not able to get up there until after it closes or before it opens. Not sure I want to be going up when someone is coming down one of the hairpin turns . . . in my lane. But Thursday is looking relatively quiet. May give it a shot before heading back to Boston.
