Complain to “Retired RPO” - he made the political comment responded to; I don’t think that should have stood.

Tried to impeach.
“Impeach” means the House of Representatives voted to send charges to the Senate; you are correct, I am not certain that the charges against Nixon got that far.

They did not, they were the reason for his quitting.
Thanks for sharing this important and very moving memory.

Nixon's lying to Congress seems minor in relationship to what is being spewed by both parties these days. Just look at all the accomplishments he was responsible for. Had it not been for Watergate, he would surely have gone down as one of the great Presidents of all time. His stance on ending war, ending the draft, his foreign achievements, his work on ending segregation, and his concern with the environment would be endorsed by Republicans and Democrats alike. He also endorsed State's control with less central government which I also endorse.
From Wikipedia:
Nixon ended American involvement in the war in Vietnam in 1973, ending the military draft that same year. Nixon's visit to China in 1972 eventually led to diplomatic relations between the two nations, and he initiated détente and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty with the Soviet Union the same year. His administration generally transferred power from federal control to state control. He imposed wage and price controls for 90 days, enforced desegregation of Southern schools, established the Environmental Protection Agency, and began the War on Cancer. He also presided over the Apollo 11 moon landing, which signaled the end of the moon race. He was re-elected in one of the largest electoral landslides in American history in 1972 when he defeated George McGovern.

You have one very similar now.
In some ways perhaps, but Nixon was intelligent (if very flawed) and pretty informed.

Actually no. Nixon had what it takes to resign when it was obviously over.

Nixon's lying to Congress seems minor in relations... (

Nixon was very bright, but some personality traits are incompatible with carrying the "football".

After Sen Goldwater told him that Senate Republicans wouldn’t back him.

Good grief. Do you have to stain every thread you're on? Its a good thing you don't make the rules either. You are perhaps the most malevolent troll on this form.

I told the Admin about this thread; he might have been able to keep this out out the Attic by deleting several threads, but I think he took the day off.

Its a real shame some feel the need to trash topics.
I know the POWs are touching with their stories. I like the one where John Wayne sat at their table.
But why did it take Nixon 5 years to end this thing when he could have done it in one?
