False feeling of security. It makes us FEEL so much better!

But following the four rules
1. social distancing
2. masking
3. sanitizing hands
4. avoiding crowds
does in fact make us safer.

From local news reports, your concerns are far from unique.

Oh, I know... Many of our drivers are, like me, getting up in years, and there is a lot of concern. Our company covers 2 adjoining districts. The other one, came out with a fancy plan which would have made things very complex for the drivers. They then scrapped it, and are going with 'virtual' school, as they had in the Spring.

Here, though, they say they are going back... The plan is for only half of the students to go in on any one day. This makes it extremely difficult for substitute drivers like myself, as there are effectively 2 different runs to learn for both elementary and secondary trip.

I told my boss that I may not be available this year. My main focus is field trips, but as they are saying no sports until next year, that is not an issue. They would be somewhat safer, since they are all secondary kids, who tend to behave better, and team players are more likely to obey the rules. There are also coaches there to help enforce them. Social distancing would still be impossible, though.

We know a young woman straight out of college who will be teaching for the first time. Apparently her relatively small school will be dividing students into two groups, one to attend class on Mon and Wed, and the other to attend class on Tue and Thur. She will prepare lectures and other material for students to watch on their own time on-line on their “off days”; I’m not clear on how they will use Friday’s.

Who knows if masking even works. Ask American Airlines. They just banned masks with respirator type devices installed. Let's all just get the virus and move on.

Ok! You die first!

Our district is proposing one group on Mondays and Thursdays, and the other on Tuesdays and Fridays. Those not in school will be receiving cyber-tuition, and this would include all students on Wednesdays. Of course, how they will get to school once the majority of bus drivers are sick, nobody knows...

You are sick and tired of this virus stuff. Well, my friend, so aren't we all. Mask up and hope things improve.

How can you compare exhaled air leakage around the edges of a mask with a wide open path through an exhaust valve?

Are there any epidemiological studies that demonstrate that wearing masks is ineffective?

Actually - there are several.

So far, but your theory is to tell her to get the virus so we can all move on, right?

So are we going to do this for the next 20 years? every time someone coughs or sneezes everyone is sent home for two weeks of quarantine?

I pray good health for you. Maybe someone will talk some sense into the students - one can always hope. For one thing, the student density will be half the usual ... and some parents I am hearing from are going to keep their progeny at home regardless of what their leadership wants.

Actually, for the person wearing the mask, the mask only will keep you from infecting others. Only the N95 mask will keep others from infecting you. People think that they are protected with non-N95 masks, but they are not. What the government needs to do, is give N95 masks to all high risk individuals. But, using the N95 mask does not mean they are safe.

What people do not understand is that medical professionals have been taught how to properly wash their hands. They are also taught not touch surfaces and their faces. I have watched people with masks and plexiglass face shields, touch a variety of surfaces, then reach underneath their plexiglass face shield and rub their eyes. When you do this, you have just exposed yourself to any of the germs that were on the surfaces you touched. Consider this... many people do not wash their hands after using the restroom.

We need to practice good personal hygiene, proper washing of hands and covering your mouth when you sneeze and/or cough.
I am sorry to hear about your son. I hope his hea... (show quote)

Please do not persist in spreading the false rumor that masks do not protect the wearer. I have a suspicion where that came from but it is patently false!

Of course any mask traps droplets containing the virus. And as long as it doesn’t have an exhaust valve it protects both ways.

The amount of protection varies with the mask and how well it is worn but most will remove the same droplets at the same speed in or out. It is a simple physical fact.

No, not every time someone coughs or sneezes. Only when there’s a possibility they might transmit a serious disease.

Just till we get an effective vaccine.

"Only when there's a possibility" Could you define those possibilities please!

The virus is utterly apolitical. Humans with political biases that make them unwilling to accept facts of Nature are the greatest impediment to coping with the virus.
