M.2 Enclosure

I'd like to buy an enclosure to use with a "Samsung SM951 256GB PCIe Gen3 8Gb/s x4 M.2 80mm (AHCI Version)" M.2 SSD. I can't tell which type of enclosure I need since there are several types of M.s drives. This one has one cutout, but so does another type.

This is mine - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VELD92U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The picture is from Amazon.

EDIT: It looks like there ain't no such thing. The AHCI is old technology - four years old. Now it's all SATA and NV...

Thanks, but, "nVME." They didn't have that in 2016, and no one is making an enclosure for my SATA M.2. If I had PCI or NVMe, I could find one. Neither of those types is compatible with the other. You'd think they could pick one or the other and go with it. Maybe I got some of the letters wrong, but my drive has been aged out of the game. If the computer was working, I could just copy the files from it, but this is a stand-alone "drive."

Jerry,

Since you appearb to be doing, primarily, storage, think about SSDs. No spinning platers. Cooler. I use 2.5" SSDs built for laptops. You can get converter brackets to mount the smaller drives in HD slots, two per if desired.

I think NVMe is overkill for storage. Besides, I've never seen mounts other than directly to a motherboard.

Good quality SSDs are reliable, else they would not be used in data centers.

/Roger

This is clever. You can install an M.2 in a machine that wasn't built for one. It's too expensive just to download a bit of data, though.

This one looks interesting, and I've heard of that brand before - Generic. The price is certainly good. The description was obviously written by someone who doesn't know English very well. Coming from Amazon I can return it if it doesn't work. My main concern, though, is messing up the card, if it's not compatible with the board. I should receive it by Aug 27. This is what I have to connect to it - Samsung SM951 256GB PCIe Gen3 8Gb/s x4 M.2 80mm (AHCI Version) Solid State Drive SSD

Looking back, I see that mine is an NVMe M.2. I bought both of them around the same time. I paid $373 in 2016. It now costs $100. I should have waited.

Thanks for that.
