Yes - I do hear what you are saying. But what we are looking at are certainty (deaths) against maybes, and the absence of big pharma profiteering.

“ MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday that the country has become the first to approve a coronavirus vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, with production and tens of thousands of inoculations to follow.
Officials have pledged to vaccinate millions of people, including teachers and front line health-care workers, with the experimental coronavirus vaccine beginning this month, raising global alarm that the country is jumping dangerously ahead of critical, large scale testing that is essential to determine if it is safe and effective.
Russian officials have said that a second vaccine from the state research center in Siberia, Vector, is not far behind.”

Thalidomide (intended to treat morning sickness) was not approved by the FDA because critical research, in particular safety of the fetus, had not been done.

However, these days even if the research has already been done by reputable institutions in other countries, and the drug in question has been in widespread use in other countries for years, the FDA will often insist that the same research be repeated in the US before approving its use in this country.

If you lay on trump you might get the virus. It is funny that Obama was ok to pick on,
but trump is not.

This is foolishness. Anyone in the field knows the importance of phase trials. There is not only the unforeseen damage that it could do to your body that is needed to be studied before massive release, but there is also the question of effectiveness. Not all vaccines being tested are effective. If it only helps <50% of the population, it is a massive failure.
For those who criticize the FDA or Health Canada here up north, that is the reason for pre-clinical studies (toxicity) followed by the three-phase trials (to understand dose and side effects as well as efficacy. This takes time and Putin doesn't care about using humans guinea pigs.

If it weren't for profits, most drugs wouldn't exist.

There are a lot of others vaccines that are currently similar to the Russian vaccine. The Russians just did a challenge trial in phase 2 of testing. You can see if a vaccine will be effect by vaccinating a small group and then expose them to Covid. You can check effectively but not long term effectiveness or what rare side effects the vaccine will have.
