My wife's current all in one lens is the Tamron 18-270. She loves it but it recently will not always zoom out past 18. Thoughts on the Nikon 18-300 or something else. We are both 76 and she is more of a snap shot shooter most of the time. Looking for something that she can easily use. She takes it to her quilt group for monthly meetings where they display their new quilts, etc. On serious photo trips she uses it and other Nikon lenses like the 80-400 or even the 500 f 4.
Sorry to any who saw the original post but I wanted to add some additional information.
Thanks as always to any who look and any who respond.
My wife's current all in one lens is the Tamron 18... (show quote)

“She loves it”. Why not simply have it repaired? Why are you researching other lenses? Does she want something else or do you want something else for her? If so “Danger Will Robinson”.

You can get a few lenses from a rental company and try them. That’s the best way to find out if she likes them.

I have a Sigma 18-250 on my Pentax K-3. Good lens, works fine.

I would definitely recommend the Nikon 18-300mm. This has been my go lens for a number of years. She will love it!

18-400 is more of a general walkabout lens. Try the Tamron 100-400. It’s light and can be calibrated to your camera for every focus length. My party used one on her D7209 on a trip to Costa Rica. I can honestly say it matched or even bettered my 80-400 on a D500.

Since you already have an 80-400 beast, get her the 18-140 for her quilt group outings. She'll love its compactness.

We have the 18-140 on our D7200 semi-permanently! It has been a perfect choice for us and renders sharp images.

Is there a zoom lock on the lens? I have the nikon 200-500 & you pull it in to 200 & flip a switch to lock it for transportation. Good luck with what ever you decide.

As we get older the weight is definitely a consideration. I carry the Sony A77 with a Sony 18-250 lens and most of the time I've also got my radio around my neck...I do have neck problems now at 76. Part of the problem is time...Saturday I was at a drowning for six hours with my camera and radio and by the time I went home I could hardly move. The weight and the heat and humidity bout did me in.

Despite my gentle urgings on occasion that she diversify, my wife has the Nikon DX 18-300 glued to he D5300. When we go birding together, she acknowledges that she can not get the longest of the long shots, but likes to get both wide scenery shots and close-up flower shots. The Tamron 18-400 might be a bit of an upgrade, but we have no urgent need to change.

My wife did the same (Nikon D5300 and 18-300). She always took better photos than me because she had a natural sense for composition. I lost her a couple of years ago but the 18-300 now spends a lot of time on my D5600 (when the 200-500 isn’t).

I meant to add there are two Nikon 18-300 lenses. One goes to f5.6 (mine) and one to f6.3. I think the f5.6 has to be better but I recall DXOMark rated them the same but the 5.6 is sharper.

Sony RX10 IV would solve the weight problem and she'd have a wonderful Zeiss 24-600mm lens.
