I think political statements should be kept out of this forum. As far as I know the image on the wall has no relation to whether the photographer was a Republican, Democrat, or Alien from the planet Zeus. If you like the picture that is all that matters.

I agree Neewer Arca swiss plate are working on my Bogen 3021 tripod and Manfrotto 190.

I changed from Manfrotto release system because of Camera creep. Eliminated creep with the Neewer Arca Swiss style plate system. I ordered the 60mm size plate instead of the 40mm.

I do not use A/S under my heads because they are not beefy enough and they allow too much movement IMO. .

I use A-S at both ends of my heads. As long as you use the right sized plates and clamps (eg 60 instead of 50mm) and use the 3/8" tripod threads and not the 1/4" and I get no movement what-so-ever. I guess it might make a difference depending on what size lens and heads you use but ours are pretty big and no movement. We have more concern with a tripod potentially over balancing than any movement on the top of the tripod.
The advantage of using at both ends is that any camera (and binoculars, flashes, etc) fits on any head and every head fits on any tripod/monopod. Takes a few seconds to convert. If you only have a single tripod, camera and ball head then just use the screws they came with otherwise a-s is the only way to go.

What does anyone recommend as a good, not too expensive quick release system for my camera to tripod. I would like one that allows purchase of multiple plates for different cameras but uses the same base attachment. I have a good tripod and do not need a tripod quick release system combination. I just want to upgrade my tripod with the addition of the quick release system. I don't care if it is the Manfrotto or the ARCA-Swiss type release system. There is so much negativity on line concerning any particular one I research that I can't decide.

How much quicker than "pull the lever 90° and remove camera" do you need?

You left out the couple of minutes required to readjust the lever position to suit the plate. Either because the plate is from a different manufacturer than the one you usually use or because it accidently got twisted somehow during storage.

Really Right Stuff has a drawing for their Arca-Swiss design on their website. Most manufacturers adhere to these dimensions. Some manufacturers have slight variations in the overall width and depth of the dovetail grooves but they are still 45 degree dovetails. They still work in the clamps that have the screw type locking. I have a Sirui plate that is slightly wider than most but still works.

I've had Manfrotto tripod heads (I still have one) with the Manfrotto quick release system. I've been moving away from that to heads with Arca-Swiss dovetails. With the Manfrotto system, I always had to double check if the lever actually secured the quick release plate properly. The Arca-Swiss clamping is more robust. Another plus is that you can use L-brackets with it and some telephoto lenses now have Arca-Swiss dovetail grooves machined into the tripod collar foot.

...I'm with you, only have totally gone to Arca-Swiss. I still have the Manfrotto heads, but have modified to accept the rail system.

By movement I mean not being perfectly centered and stable over the centerpost centerline....

And, yes the size of your equipment will be a factor.

Whether or not you agree, you should not alter the post to which you're replying. I've seen your photos of some of the gear you've made and i'll say some is innovative. I do not have your time, talent or equipment to make what I need so I buy it from the best source I can find. I still have every piece of RRS gear I've ever bought, and it still works as good as new. Buying the best, given my use, has worked well for me for many years. Having everything the same makes everything work seamlessly together, something Bogen/Manfrotto was never able to do. I couldn't be happier with RRS. YMMV. Best of luck. P.S. What old Manfrotto gear/plates wold you like to purchase?

Calumet makes a system that is inexpensive and decent quality.
