I’ve owned an Olympus EM 2 for some 7-8 years. I have several lenses and have been happy with the results. Recently my camera was submerged in a mishap with sand remains in the body and lens.

I’ve not heard favorable comments about Olympus cameras. I’d like to replace it and still use my Olympus lenses. I’ve read some reviews of the Panasonic GX 9.

I’m open to thoughts and views others might have on a replacement. Many thanks

I have a GX85, GX8 and G9. All are fantastic cameras but the G9 the best of the 3.

I own a GX 9. It is a great camera, hardly larger than a point and shoot, with the ability to use your lenses. I use a G9 for travel and find that it is a much more capable camera and has a more sturdy build. But for hiking, biking and candid street shots, the size and quality of GX9 image is hard to beat. You do miss out on some of the stabilizer features of your Olympus lenses when mounted on Panasonic cameras. Enjoy, it’s a great camera.

I own a GX9 and am very happy with it. It seems to me that a lot of people don't know the differences between a GX9 and a G9, the latter being the most well known of the two. They are very different, as are the GX8 and the G85. Of the 4 models, I like the GX9 the best, and wouldn't trade it for any Canon or Nikon, period.

Panasonic G9 is the latest (last)? of their G series SLR styled M43 cameras.
The GX9 is the latest (last) of their GX series retro-rangefinder styled M43 cameras.
GX8 and GX9 both have swivelling EVFs and are 20 mpx.
I have a GX8, which I prefer to the GX9, for the following reasons - fully articulating monitor, larger EVF, weathersealing, chunkier for good grip and I prefer to have an anti-alias filter. OTOH, the GX9 has a newly designed electro-magnetic shutter which gets rid of shutter shock. I leave my GX8 switched to electronic shutter to do the same thing, not that I have ever had a SS problem. I have always felt that the GX9 was an upgrade of the GX7. The GX8 is different and more expensive. The 16 mpx GX7 was also very popular. (I had one)

I have two Olympus cameras and love them both. I’m getting better images now than I did with my then beloved Nikon gear. I’ve paired them with Oly lenses and have no complaints at all. I have the m5 II and III. It’s certainly worth taking a look at them.

The GX9 has in body image stabilizer. With my Olympus lenses will I loose that stabilization? Thanks for the most helpful replies

I got a GM5 a few years ago because of its small size and EVF. I had tried a Sony NEX7 but had trouble with its menus going back and forth to my Nikons. The Lumix has a smaller sensor but the menus are more workable for me.

I am in the process of relearning it. It is easy to work. But the M4/3 images don’t measure up to my Nikons mostly because of not so hot higher ISO performance.

They don’t make that model any more and its replacement lacks EVF.

I have been using Olympus digital cameras for over 5 years now. Never a problem. I am very satisfied with the images I get from them. I use some Panasonic lenses with my cameras but I have never used a Panasonic body.
I do not know who told you that Olympus has a bad reputation. Their cameras are of excellent quality, the lenses sharp as tack and the service very good indeed.

Your Olympus lens will work fine on the GX9 or any other Panasonic camera as well. You will still benefit from image stabilization too. What you won't get is dual stabilization that you get with certain dedicated Panasonic lens. Hope this clarifies it for you.

I think that the only prob with Olympus might be the menus, which are not so intuitive as Panasonics, which are the best and most easy to use and most comprehensive in the whole industry.

If Panasonic re-introduced the GX8 with their newly introduced electro-magnetic shutter and latest engine, perhaps minus the anti-alias filter and called it the GX10, it would be a world beater. However, it would probably be too expensive, so the rumoured launch of the GX10 wil likely be a bit cheaper, leaving out the full specs of the GX8.

I’m a life long owner and user of Panasonic cameras. But I have never heard anything bad about Olympus! They are very fine as well

I have both the GX-8 and GX-9…Earlier comments are quite valid but I must add that the GX-9 is not weatherproofed like the 8. The body has not got the "heft" of the-8 nor a fully articulating screen. Also it does not have the AA filter thus I see an improvement in sharpness compared to the -8.
