Photoshop brush has changes to a crosshair from a circle

I was half way through editing an image in Photoshop CS 5.5 and was using the burn tool just like normal. I usually use the square brackets [ and ] to decrease/increase the brush size.

In the past I have noticed that if I accidentially set a very large brush the circle showing the brush size changes to a crosshair pointer instead of a circle showing the brush size. My kitten just walked over the keyboard and now I can not get my circle back for any tool be it burn, brush, crop or anything. I have restarted PS CS 5.5 and the PC many times. I have switched brushes and manually put the brush size into the toolbar as well as trying the brackets but still its a crosshair instead of a circle.

I can not work like this as I do not know where the edge of the brush is as the brush is bigger that the crosshair icon I have.

Does anybody have any Ideas how I can get my circle back please? I have a deadline to edit lots of images by Monday morning and I could do without working all weekend.

Many thanks in advance

Try Caps lock button, I think this toggles cross hair

Oh thank you so much. I can't beleive it was that simple and that I have never noticed this happens before.

I was just about to reinstall Master collection which takes about an hour or more. Ive messed about with my graphics card settings and was at a real loss. Your speedy reply has saved me a lot of work. Thank you again.

For years I wondered why I would sit down to a photoshop session and my circle had randomly become a crosshair. Now I know. TNX

In Elements 9 there is a "reset tool" and "reset all tools". This usually does the trick.

The caps lock key thing I understand is the singe largest reason for calls to Adobe support. If you don't know it, that can drive you crazy!

It certainly did drive me crazy. I went through all preferences, reinstalled my graphics card driver and had to change my settings back and was at a loss. Who would have thought it was this? Im sure I have been using text tool with caps on before adn never noticed.

If I ever run in to things like this, I google it... Undoubtedly, someone else has had the problem. The caps lock one got me years ago.

I want a cat but you can't train them to stay on the floor. They're up on every surface even the kitchen counter-tops and dining room tables not to mention the hair left on one's cloths.

With that computer glitch, it's one more reason not to have a cat but I sure miss having one. I miss having a dog too but then I couldn't travel as much.

Having a pet is like having another child. Children are for young folks not us traveling retirees. :-P

I normally trouble shoot through google. The answer is always there you just have to ask the right questions. In this case I did not know how to put it into words. I had a decent go on here and am glad I got my answer very quickly. I did not even know its called a crosshair but play a few shoot em up games and thought it looked similar. Thank you

We have 3 cats and this new kitten. Also a dog and 2 gerbals. We used to have 7 hens, more gerbals, goldfish and 2 other dogs plus a rabbit sanctuary with 26 rabbits. They either all got re-homed or sadly passed on. Our dog is getting old now and sadly when the time comes I do not think we will get another. They are faithful and part of the family but also costly and a bind. We still travel and he goes to kennels or our our eldest son comes and house sits for us.

The 3 older cats live outside for the exact same reasons you mentioned. Hair on clothes and walking on the kitchen food surfaces. Until this year we lived in a large 6 bedroom country farm house with a cat flap and the cats were put out at night but could come back in during winter.

We now have a smaller house and they live in our stone out buildings. We smoke outside and they always come for affection constantly day and evening and at feeding times. I will be getting a heat lamp for them to keep cosy in the sheds in the cold. I am currently looking as the winter nights are drawing in.

Our kitten is young and confined to an area downstairs. When she is big enough to protect herself she will be put out in the sheds. At the moment she is tiny and will crawl up my leg onto the computer desk when I am working. She loves watching the screen as the curser moves. More often than not she lies in my lap and goes to sleep.

They all make for fantastic photos.
