I shoot with a Canon SX50 HS and have spent some time learning DPP 4. I'm considering a Sony RX10 IV. Will the Sony work with DPP 4 or do I have a Post Processing learning curve to anticipate if I go with the Sony?

If you mean raw file conversion, I doubt DPP will convert your Sony raw files, and that (and as a viewer) is its primary use.

Canon DPPv4 software is specific to Canon EOS RAW files. It has no application for non Canon RAW. The concepts of digital image editing is consistent across software, but it really takes a lot of understanding to transfer skills from DPP to elsewhere. I found the more I learned about other software, the more I understood how to use DPP more effectively.

Thanks for your answers. Learning new post processing software will be a part of my decision to make the change to Sony.

DPP 4 will only work for Canon, and not even all canon, but only FF Canon cameras. However, you can do some basic editing on JPG files no matter the manufacturer.

I tried to learn how to process Fujifilm files using X-RAW software but it was nowhere as easy to use as DPP.

Dpp 4 will work with crop sensor canon cameras as well F F as long as they can shoot Raw.

WRONG.

DDPv4 works with all EOS RAW, including all cropped DSLR models, interchangeable mirrorless, and even Powershot G#, and Powershot SX## models.

Thanks for the clarification, I own an old model (6D) and used to have a T1 before that. I could not process any RAW files taken with the T1 in DPP 4.

They must have updated the software since.

Initially, the v4 software was limited. But, that was years ago. The software has been updated to cover all digital EOS cameras going back to even the EOS D2000/D6000 models that wrote their RAW to files with 'TIF' extensions, even through those files were RAW rather than TIF format. Visit your local Canon.com website and download the latest software, now v4.12.60. You just need a valid EOS s/n to enable the download. Any camera type will work, as long as a valid number format.

Clearly I am a bit outdated :)

DPP 4 only works with Canon raw files (much to my dismay). JPEG, OK, but not raw from other camera brands. So if you are shooting raw with your Sony, you'll need other software.

The Sony RX10M4 includes a free Capture One Sony Express, for basic raw conversion, and when you start using it, the first few days include the free unlimited Capture One Pro Sony. Afterwards, it reverts to just the Sony Express version. IMHO, Capture One on Sony is as good if not better than DPP 4 on Canon - and it is well worth the investment of time to learn it.

Thanks for responding. The decision to change will be a difficult one. Are there any rumors of an RX 10 V?
