You pays your penny and takes your choice. Some love them and produce formidable results. Over decades, every time I've bought an off brand lens, it has gone away as soon as I could afford OEM. You may have better luck!

Like OEM

I have both. I have a Canon mount Tamron 24-70mm F/2.8 G2 which I love and a Canon mount Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 which I also love. The Tamron has image stability which the Canon does not and that was important to me.

Check the specs carefully.

Image stability could be deal breaker

Both are excellent lenses. The thing to note is the recent different philosophies of the two companies. Sigma tends to maximize sharpness, sort of quality above all, so their new Art/Sports lenses are often big and heavy. Tamron lenses are usually smaller and lighter, and IMO better ergonomically-designed. In the lens you specified, the Sigma Sports version weighs 63.7 oz. vs. the Tamon which weighs 52.4 oz. That's a difference of 11 oz. The Sigma is a little longer, by 1/2 inch.

If I were to make a choice, I would choose the Tamron, even though it might well be a tad less sharp, jsut because of the lighter weight and in my book better ergonomics. Not bashing Sigma at all, I own their 24mm/1.4 and 50mm/1.4 Art lenses.

I have both brands but my decision was made not by online reviews but rather by going to my local camera store and doing a "test drive"with my camera body (D7200) in the store. Only then could I both see and feel how each lens performed and also was able to ask the salesperson about lens specs, packages, etc. I was also given the option of buying a demo lens (actually it was the lens I was trying out) at a significant savings but with the same warranty as I would have gotten with a new lens.
I realize that for some UHHers this may not be possible but if you can, it is certainly worth considering.
Good luck!

I think the more important question is "does she permit him to buy new photo gear"? . . .

Try to google a comparison review done by people in the industry.
I'm sure everyone here will have their personal preference.

Imho, the Sigma Art series are fabulous lenses. I own 2, soon to be 3. They are used on my Nikon D750 and D810. Sigma Art is definitely worth a look.

I have Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina lenses. Quality and performance vary in each, and the specific lens you want should be individually compared by reading expert reviews. The consumer grade Nikon lenses now have more plastic in them than in prior years, Sigma appears to have just as much metal as ever, don't know quality of current Tokina, Tamron. The optical performance also varies in each line. Read the reviews.

Hi there.
Looking for some information on which brand
Lens is better.
The Tamron or Sigma.
The lens I'm looking for is the 70 to 200mm F/2.8.
Thank you all in advance.

Depends completely upon the specific lens. Review what has been said about the specific lens or lenses you are interested in. I own a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 for Nikon as well as a Sigma Art 35mm f1.4, both for my Nikon D810. See "bythom.com", kenrockwell.com, and DP Preview for a start.

I shoot Nikon, and I go with Tamron, all else being equal, for the simple reason that the zoom ring twists in the same direction as Nikon glass. I did recently acquire the Tamron 70-200 and am still evaluating, but liking it so far. I like the functionality of Tamron’s Tap-in Console for updates and tweaking (Sigma has the equivalent). You can check Ken Rockwell’s review, among others, for outside commentary.

I have a D750 and the Tamron 24-70 G2 as well as the Tamron 150-600 G2 for Nikon. This Tap-in Console is all new to me so this is something I should look into. I am glad you mentioned the Tap-in unit.
