Here are a few photos from a recent trip to Mesa Verde NP. Due to Covid, some areas and not open and no tours of the ruins are available. Still, there was plenty to see and enjoy and the crowds were very lite for summer.

A great series. What a beautiful set showing some wonderful architecture built into the side of a mountain. A true wonder. Mahalo for sharing.

Thank you for adding the last photo with people present. I have never been to Mesa Verde but most photos I have seen, like your well done first photos seem to shoe the area as a model, as if I am looking at a model RR layout. It is hard to judge size with no people present. You have helped to put some size perspective to my thoughts.

I think I just need to go there myself to see what it truly is.

Dennis

Some kids and I were RVing near there, (decades ago) and decided to follow the Anastasi trail.
From their beginnings where the neighbors (translated) called them "friends".
Then that volcano happened, and generations of drought. Civilizations died. The Anastasi moved.
To here, and the term was "new people", or then "invaders"
Next stop, and they were called "the enemies".
We- and this branch- petered out @ the Petrified Forest area.
Segue!
I live in LA. @ 12 miles from the mountains. If it didn't rain I can't see them.
I go to Mesa Verde. We stay overnight at the Petrified Forest, then the "Native American" trailer/RV park.
Looking at maps and yakking with locals. Doesn't make sense. I point- "How far is that?""@ 45 miles".
I laugh. The farthest range I can see clearly is @ 90 miles. I can see 7, sometimes 9 at home.

I have been there several times but never with a modern digital camera. Maybe I need to go back; you have inspired me.
