With baseball season finally beginning, how about a list of the greatest home runs of all time. Here are three to start the list.

Bobby Thompson's home run to win the pennant for the Giants

Babe Ruth calls his shot (whether he really did or not)

Kirk Gibson's home run in the first game of the '88 world series

Bobby Thompson's broke my young heart and Kirk Gibson's put it back together 37yrs later.

Wasn’t Gibson’s home run the last game? The series winner?

Both Mantle and Maris breaking Ruth’s record. The whole country was following and anticipating.

Mantle hit 54 homers that year. It was a tough year for him and Maris. Mantle had back problems and most Yankee fans wanted him to break the record, not Maris. Another controversy was Commissioner Ford Frick insisted that the asterisk be attached to the record because teams were now playing 162 games as opposed to the 154 of earlier years.

Roger's *61st. I was there selling hot dogs in the centerfield bleachers. The stands were mostly empty; the Yanks had already clinched the pennant.

Trivia question:
What role did Sal Durante play in this historic moment?

It was a two run walk-off in Game 1. What added to the drama was the fact that Gibson had injured his leg in the NLCS and spent most of the game in the clubhouse getting therapy on his legs. Oakland didn’t even know Gibson was available to play until LaSorda called on him to pinch hit. The rest, as they say, is history.

Reggie Jackson’s 3 in the final game of the 1977 World Series, to bring the Yankees their first Championship since 1962. I was there.
I was also there at opening day the next year when he hit another home run in his first at bat and we threw his Reggie bars onto the field.

I kept screaming at the radio take him out, take him out!
We all knew Ralphie (Branca ) was starting to hang his curve.
Thompson was just waiting for the “ meat ball “ he knew was coming.
Another “Wait Till Next Year” ending for us Bums fans.

The Mick never broke Ruth’s record. He hit 54 that year, 1961, he most he ever hit in a season.

Maris broke Ruth's record, Mantle did not. Mantle did however, once hit a homer that traveled 565 feet

Mantle’s longest MEASURED home run was on 10Sept 1960 in Detroit. It went over the roof in right at Tiger Stadium, across the street and landed in a lumber yard. The distance was 643 feet.

I’m pretty sure Thompson was the only batter Branca faced. It was Newcomb who was getting hit hard but managed to get two outs. Branca only three 3 pitches.

Sept 1990, Ken Griffey and Junior go back to back, the only time in the history of baseball father and son hit consecutive home runs.

They’ll likely hold the record for “Most Back to Back Home Runs by a Father and Son” for a very long time. I’ll wager it will never be broken😳

There's one homer I will never forget.

My Dad brought me to the stadium the day Mantle hit his 370 footer.

I was 12 yrs. old.

A memory I will always cherish.
