Here is a small collection of birds in flight. I could put many, many more up, the site limits posting to 10 images

Great pictures! What lens and camera? A question I have, is do you hand hold the camera, or do you have it mounted on some sort of tripod or gimble head? My Tamron 150-600 is kind of heavy, and hard for me to hand hold.

I use a Nikon D810, D600, D3 or a Df on a Nikkor 600mmF:4 G VR . Its mounted on a old (2011) Gitzo Carbon Fiber tripod with Kirks Enterprises new Gimbal head. I also use 21 sensors or group 4. I shoot all the time on either a tripod or monopod. I never handhold. I move all the weight in a runners baby buggy.

Thanks for your reply! I use a Canon, so not sure what 21 sensors is all about, but I take it you use something besides just spot focus. And I'm glad to see you use some sort of gimbal head. Most of the ones I see on youtube just hand hold the camera/lens, but I don't know how they do it. Those lenses are heavy! I have not been very successful using a monopod. The idea of using a baby buggy to carry everything is a good one. I'll have to look into something like that. Some places that might be a bit hard, but other places, that would work great. Thanks for the idea!

And thanks again for your reply!

On Nikon cameras D810, D600 and Df I rotate thru single, 9 sensors, 21 sensors or all 51 sensors. On my D3 I use single sensor dynamic. I also use a shutter speed of 1/2000 and higher. The higher the shutter the sharper the image. As for panning, go practice on auto traffic. Or if you can drag racing, motorcycle racing.
Your Canon should should have something similar.
