The D80 had a faulty phase switch that failed on all of them. most of the first series D series had faulty aperture control units. The D7000 and the D750 series have faulty shutters that fly apart. On the D7000 this also took out the low pass filter on the image sensor. The list goes on and on and goes back quite a few years. That's why I'm a Canon shooter and repair Nikons for a living.
Interesting. I have a D7000 that I've used for years in all kinds of inclement conditions and it has never failed to produce excellent results. I also have a D80 and a D610. No issues with any of them. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe the issues reported were from people who don't treat their equipment with the respect it deserves.
Btw, I still have my 35mm Canon gear from the 70s. Love it but switched to Nikon for digital.
