I read all these posts about not getting the color right, or the exposure is always wrong or the photos are unsharp despite all sorts of stacking or processing, using high powered 36MPs and super tele's, RAW processed with high priced software, while my little XT1 gives me sharp well exposed colorful jpegs right out of the camera with no effort at all. No I cannot put a 600 mm zoom on it 'cause they don't make one for it, but my 230 delivers an equivalent 345, and it is only 4 inches long and weighs only a few ounces! And I have yet to see an excellent amateur result with a 600 anyhow. You can't handhold a lens like that and I am never going to drag around a tripod! I am convinced most camera buffs are overthinking and over purchasing and could do much more with less if it is the right "less". (Which my little old Fuji is for me.)

Why are you on this forum if you just want a simple auto-everything point & shoot? Apparently you either don't care about the technical or don't understand them. There are lots of websites to view nicely composed photos which is only a tiny aspect of this forum. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I don't get your attitude with respect to this forum.

I agree. You missed the point. There is technical-useful and there is TECHNICAL for its own sake. Complication does not often yield better results. We have instruments that, handled quite simply, do very sophisticated things if we allow them to. My little Fuji is just that sort of machine. I DO understand what it is doing. I appreciate what it is doing. And I am not so convinced of my own genius to think I can substantially improve on it. (Ie manual, raw, processing, stacking etc.) I have tinkered with all of these, and I have seen enough pedestrian results on this forum to convince me I am well served by my little XT-1.

The lenses and the sensor and the processor. I happen to thinks Fuji’s are first rate and the adaptability,it’s, the Shutter, Hess all are great add ins bu unless front end backend are good nothing us will be.

I have the XT-2 and feel the same way. 9 times out of 10 I like the colors and overall result straight out of camera. I love that it is lightweight and I can hike all day with this camera and not feel "weighed down". As someone else in this thread said, it is wonderful to be happy with what you have.

I agree with every point. I got a Fuji XT-3 over a year ago and since then, my Nikon full-frame has been a bit lonely. Yes, when I'm home I use the Nikon occasionally, but when headed for a walk to the park, it's the Fuji strapped around my neck -- for all the reasons you state.

While I do have many cameras from other brands I do love the Fuji’s and I recently downsized I sold the XH-1 and got a used XT-1! The XH-1 was just too big and although the video is way better than the XT-1 I am not into video. I’ve always liked Fuji’s 16mb sensors and my Graphite XT-1 is better built than the XH-1. Now I don't use the XT1 for every type of shooting, most other types of shooting it’s excellent.
The tactile feeling and the beauty more compact and high quality lenses is to me what makes Fuji so special.

I disagree with the statement that one cannot handhold a camera with a 600mm lens. I don't use a tripod with my Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens and I can show you images I've taken that are very sharp. All cameras are capable of taking exceptional pictures in auto mode but there are certain effects one desires and gets only in other modes. We all have our reasons for owning the equipment that we do and if you're perfectly happy with what you have that's great.

Cat, I find myself using my XT-3 with an auto setting more often than not. I am very satisfied with the results straight out of the camera. I did a photo project for my church, updating the on line photo directory. The photos came out excellent (it did require supplemental lighting and a backdrop) but all were very satisfied with results. I was late to come to the Fuji table, but am very glad I did. This works well for me, and I know other people have their preferences that work best for them. The beauty in all of this is we can choose what works best for us and get enjoyment out of it, just the same.

Shade and sun, subjects of all reflectance values, and Fuji just sorted it all out to the very best compromise of all possibilities and gave me this beautifully balanced little vignette of Americana with lovely colors, right out of the camera. And it does it every time. No it does not have mega megapixels, and I usually use the kit lens (this was the kit lens for this photo), but it delivers the exposure, the sharpness, the color every time. Yes i could improve this by cropping, it is the entire frame as is!

CatMarley, thanks for your post. I have an X-T1 with the 18-135 mm lens. Relatively low shutter count and I don’t use nearly as often as I should but when I do, I’m very pleased with resulting photos- Raw or jpeg, but shoot mainly jpeg. Thought about selling since Fuji is now out with the X-T4, but you’ve assured me to be content with what I have. Thanks!

Excellent post Cat. I bought the X-T2 with the kit lens a few years ago primarily because of the reputation and reviews on this forum and elsewhere. I agree with everything you said about these remarkable little cameras. I now spend a lot more time taking photos than spending hours in front of my computer trying to squeeze the last ounce of "perfection" from my RAW images. My Nikon and Sony are spending a lot more time on the shelf since buying the Fuji. And thanks for all of your comments on these fine little cameras over the years.

Fuji delivers very pleasing images with great color, and if you rarely print large images there is very little to gain with megapixel monsters.

I’ve had Blazing Editions print 60 x 40” images on white aluminum taken with my Fuji XT-2, and from a viewing distance of four feet or more, they look as good as images taken with my Nikon D750 full frame. One of the Fuji images was shot with the “kit” 18-55mm lens. I eventually sold all my Nikon gear and now have the Fuji XT-3 along with most of Fuji’s prime lenses. I’ve kept the XT-2 as a back up and when shooting from a kayak. As a retired travel photographer, I couldn’t be happier with the smaller, lighter Fuji X system.

Hi there,

I have the XT1 and T2. I much prefer the XT1 to the 2. Size, weight and simplicity. The T1 produces excellent RAW files that have a very special "feel" to them. With a small lens it fits in a pocket. It also fits in my hand perfectly. I love it. It reminds me of my FM.
The plus side of the Pandemic is that it has forced me to stop buying things I don't really need - new lenses etc and get the best out of what I've got.

If you are happy with your photo's , that's all that matters. Your going to run into ignorant narrow minded people that will put you down for using auto. Keep doing what your doing. The only opinion that matters is your own.
