You might also consider focus stacking. That allows you to get the entire flower in focus while leaving the background out of focus.

I've used both (100mm macro & 300mm f/4 L with 50mm extension tube) and see no advantage of one over the other. The longer focal length allows greater distance so if there is an advantage that is it.

Beautiful Image....sorry that I can't advise you on the lens question though. I think what you have is more than appropriate and I would frame it and put her on the wall ,just as she is. Thank you.
