I have multiple movies taken on my Canon 5D II & 5D III which cannot be viewed on a new computer I purchased. Also, I want to email the movies to family members, but need to convert the movie files to something that others can view on their computers. Is there free conversion software available to to make these conversions happen? Thank you

Don't know about good free one but I use Aiseesoft MTS Convertor (does most formats) and it is on sale for $25.60, believe they offer 30-day free trial. Simple to use.

If I remember right, Canon tried a unique MPEG-4 codec in their MOV files with those cameras that caused some editing challenges. I also think I remember that the free program Handbrake did a good job transcoding to a more common codec.

Emailing movie files is problematic due to normal video file size. Consider putting them on YouTube or Vimeo with a private link to put in the email.

Are you shooting in 4K? What is the file type and file size for one of your videos? (file type .mov, .mp4, etc?, file size in kb or mb).

Chances are you will not be able to email any videos because they will be too large for your email. For example gmail only allows up to a 25MB file attachment. That is probably a few seconds of your video at most.

Best thing is probably to set up a youtube channel and give your intended viewers the link. Advantage of youtube is anyone can view the videos on any device without downloading the files..

If you want to keep the videos private, or give the viewers a file to download and keep on their computer, you can use a file sharing app like wetransfer.com. Wetransfer is the easiest, you just supply a to and from email address and upload up to a 2GB file. The recipient gets an email link where they can download the file. If you are sending h.264 mp4 files, they won't need any special software to view the files other than what they already have on their PC.

I recently bought Premier Photoshop for $99... actually they have a 30day free trial period. When you edit and export using their export/share option, you then have several choices. I just made my first test emailing one as a Gmail attachment. My Gmail made a link and sent it via Google Drive. I'm new to making videos and limited technically, but this works for me . Try the free trial! Good luck!

HandBrake. Freeware... GNU license. I used it today. Mac/Windows.
