Beautiful, young and talented Nancy. When TV was live, inventive and "classy". The program was "Jazz Scene" with host Oscar Brown Jr. Anyone else remember him and the program?

No, I was not aware of Oscar Brown Jr. or the program. A bit early for me. I did not even realize (that) Nancy Wilson was preforming in '62. Some really nice pre-Motown soul with a Jazz backing. I'm from 1954 and started to listen to music on the radio around 1965, and started buying LPs in 1968. But today I have recorded music from 1925 to 2021. And even lots of stuff my parents liked. Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Frank Sinatra are great. Some how my mind also gravitates to Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock, as well as most music. Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Folk, Classical, Soul, and of course the Classic Rock I grew up on, 1967-77, etc. Thanks for your post and finding this old TV broadcast.

Thanks for the reply. We all have our "periods' for music. I grew up to the "big bands" and in the late 50's gravitated to Bop and modern jazz. As you have mentioned, I have many other forms and periods of music I love including classical. Personally, I see no redeeming value in today's music scene. To me, music is art.
Stay safe & well. I always enjoy your comments and posts.

Thanks for this rare find, Mark. Nancy was the first female jazz singer I discovered in my teens from the vinyl albums, Welcome to My Love, and The Sound of Nancy Wilson. Couldn't get enough of those albums! Imagine the thrill I got a number of years later, when I got to play her show when it came to Minneapolis. Probably the single most musical book I ever played, and she was beyond cool!
Mark,
Thank you. I forgot how marvelous Nancy's phrasing was. My favorite of hers was "I WISH YOU LOVE". The intro, she sang it, as she sang it , set up the emotions of the listener to "receive" the message.
Our age of lyrics that are emotive and have meanings that are not spewing profanity and short term achievements, is fading. Thankfully, I have Sirius XM to fill my ears when I wish to time travel. You might do a search for "Bill Evan's With Symphony Orchestra" or play some of the "MOODY BLUES" musically diverse offerings. I am rambling, sorry. Thank you Mark, "azai gesundt".
Morning Mark,
I remember Nancy and Oscar quite well. Really "cool". I was only 12 years old at the time although this was the time I was becoming musically "aware" (which has developed into a lifelong addiction!) and was absolutely enthralled by the wondrous variety / styles / performers / instrumentation etc. This was just before the "60's" with its' absolute renaissance of everything musical and I paid attention. This eventually led to a very nice career in this field. Maybe Nancy and Oscar played a part - I'd like to think so. Keep on posting these wonderful pieces of our musical history - they are truly fascinating.
All the best to you and yours and stay safe during the very interesting times. Whenever we become a little bit "down" our music will ALWAYS pull us through.

She's one of my favorite vocalists, Audrey.

You had a varied and marvelous career. I was at Birdland, when Cannonball Adderley called Nancy up to the bandstand to perform a few tunes with his group. It was her introduction to the NY audience. Subsequently, her wonderful album with his group was released. I have it on vinyl, disc and in my mp3 collection.
Thanks,
Mark

Morning Mark, br br I remember Nancy and Oscar qu... (
show quote)
Good Morning Terry,
The 60's had some great jazz and in general, wonderful music. Music is embedded in my soul. I began playing a cornet at 9, switched to trumpet at 11 and continued playing until a few years ago. My uncle was an engineer at radio station WNJR. The played classical music, but he would receive all comped jazz albums. I became the recipient and my love of jazz began. I wore them out on my "Victrola".
Thanks for the wonderful comments and sharing your music experiences.
Stay safe & well.
Mark
I was always a Nancy Wilson fan and had many of her albums. Hollywood My Way and Broadway My Way were my favorites. My wife and I went to see her live in DC back in the 90's and she still had it.
