A few of my daughter dancing

This past Sunday was my daughters rescheduled recital. Usually it is held inside a local high school auditorium, but because of the way things are now, it was held in the evening at a local park that has a small stage.
I'm pretty happy the way these turned out considering the poor lighting and no flash.

Cute, but don't you have to show feet for dancing?

She's dancing? Not in these photos. Are there no full length shots?

You know, that's why I love this site. Pointing out the obvious- it never crossed my mind to get full length shots. I was very satisfied that I was able to get some clear shots with some good facial expressions.
If I change the title to "My daughter performing" or My daughter singing" would that alter your perception?

...I shoot alot of pageantry/dance and I'm in portrait mode most of the time. The legs are a big part of it. Nice images, tho!

Lovely. Even though we don't see the full figure, those eyes, face, expressions, arms/hands pose are beautiful to see. Thanks for sharing your enjoyment.

Nicely done. I haven't shot any stage production since the film era, those are much better then I did back then.
Your daughter is a great looking young lady but she may not appreciate the animation shown by her open mouth, or is the unusual shot the one with her mouth closed? 😇

I'm not sure if you meant the question for me, but I'll take a shot at the answer. Assume you were taking photos for the dancer and you handed her what you showed us, do you think she would be pleased? Even if you pointed out her wonderful facial expressions? There is nothing wrong with the photography. Just keep in mind next time you photograph dance you should consider showing feet. You set the scene when you said she was dancing, we, the viewer expected to see dancing - what we saw was singing.

I agree with that and you are correct.

Considering your working conditions they all turned out very nicely.

Excellent - and I like the way you did them! You're picturing the girl, not just some dancer!!!

Loren - in Beautiful Baguio City

...yes, but here's what some of us are commenting on. Do you see a person, or "some dancer?" It all depends on what you're after, but if you're going to document "dancing" it just seems right to have the whole body in the shot (AND the facial expression cuz moms like that, doncha know)...not *every* shot, mind you, but a representative sample for sure. (I didn't convert to sRGB for this one, so download to see colors correctly)...
