I have had metal prints done via CG Pro Prints and they are a lot less pricey than say Artbeat or others. Also, how did you sign the print? Electronic that you pasted into the image or did you actually sign it and not have it smear? Thanks.

I physically signed with an ultra fine point alcohol pen. They don't usually smear.

CG Pro Prints does an excellent job on canvas, metal and acrylic prints. I have been using them for several years and I have not been disappointed even once.

This is only the second time I've used them. I do wish shipping weren't so expensive!

I do print at home, but I had no idea something like metal paper exists. I'll certainly have a look into that. Then when I have money again I can experiment. Right now, though, I'm so poor I can't even pay attention. (Tongue in cheek)

Metallic paper has been around for a long time. It has an ability to draw out detail in an image that's pretty unbelievable. Some colours do well on it. Some do not. Some labs offer metallic paper prints, so you might check that out instead of purchasing an entire pack of paper. And I don't think those printed on my own printer are quite as good. Not sure why.

I used to use a metallic marker to sign my metal prints. However, a little alcohol wipes it right off. I’ve since just use a copyright embedded in the file.

I've never liked that idea because when you increase the size of the print, it increases the size of the signature. If you make it large enough to be seen on a small print, it becomes huge on a large one, and I don't like that.

I didn’t think metal paper prints were the same as metal prints. One is just a type of paper and the other is a print on actual metal (aluminum, I would guess).

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

They aren't. They're quite different. You are correct in that one is a type of paper and the other actual metal. But the look of the metallic paper is SO much nicer than ordinary paper.

Some vendors manufacture what they call a “metallic” surface paper. Not sure of the cost. It was modeled after Kodak’s metallic silver halide paper.

I got mine from Red River. I think most vendors sell some version of it.

Your image is well composed and lit. Should be a winner!

Thank you so much. God managed the lighting, but I'll own up to the composition.

A friend of mine has equipment to do metal prints. Most all of my recent shots are printed on metal. Mostly high definition gloss or clear gloss. Very punchy especially sunsets of anything with lots of color.

How much does he charge? I normally choose the high definition gloss.

Groupon has a lot of discounts for all types of prints. Make sure you check the shipping charges as they can be more than the print.

I went through a canvas try period this summer. One issue I found was that almost none of them would give a ICC profile so I could soft proof. As a result I got a few that were way off the calibrated images.

Since we are on this subject - have any of you tried this https://www.parabo.press/engineer-prints
? They won’t send me a sample so I’m a bit leery.

I do occasionally check for coupons, but my experience says that most of the ones I find will have expired or for some reason don't work. And yes, shipping charges can add quite a bit. That's one of the reasons I normally use Costco. I actually don't do any soft proofing. Only once have I gotten anything that was badly out of whack. I do know that the in-house printing machines at my Costco store tend to "eat red," so I adjust for that when I send something in. But the printing that's done over in CA for them is always spot on.

I've never heard of Parabo Press.

Before you decide that metal prints are too expensive, compare the cost of a conventional print, plus a frame, mat, glass, etc. The cost difference may be very small!

That's part of the point I make with buyers. If you use top quality frame and glass, that can become quite pricey. Sometimes I actually do an estimate for a buyer who is weighing a standard print against a metal print. That initial lower cost looks inviting, but they have to use really cheap framing to match the final piece.

Thanks so much, Sylvia. I'm looking forward to it. With all art shows closed, this will be a real treat.

Once I found a local Walgreens with someone who knows what they're doing, I've been getting great metal prints. They do same day 11x14 in-house, 16x20s are farmed out. With their frequent sales (up to 70% off), they're a great resource.
