I retired from my full-time job (about 3 months earlier than planned due to Covid), and have kept quite busy. I've been in Charleston, SC a couple of times and in Virginia once, laid laminate flooring in the family room and put down baseboard molding with quarter round, put crown molding around the room and spent four days cleaning some things out of the garage (need to do that for about 40 more days!). Shopped and bought a new car for my wife and returned to my part-time job two days a week. Obviously I've kept myself busy but I can't get over the feeling I'm on an extended vacation and will return to work in the near future. I don't want to or plan to do more than work part-time from now on, but it is a strange feeling (for me anyway), that there will not be an end to this extended time off!

After 6 years retired I still get anxious on Sunday evenings. My body says we need to plan for Monday and the week ahead. I can laugh at it now thinking its true, you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

I "retired" from aerospace engineering after 25 years at one company at 55. During my retirement, I went back into my hobbies such as RC aircraft, Plastic models, Photography. After 4 months of off, I went back to engineering as a contractor working in different companies at different places in the US. I am happier, making much more money and doing what I enjoy...watching what I designed fly. I'll even take my plane on long cross country trips to visit other states. I'm not as anxious and am enjoying working with the people I surround myself.

I retired at 51 and husband 55. When I was working, I worked 40-50 hours a week, went to college at night and built a house all within the same 4+ years. Now I wonder how I did it because there never seems to be enough hours to the day lol

I retired a year ago from 42 years in classroom. Always stayed busy (when not in classroom) building custom cabinets/wall units to supplement income. Since retirement, I build nothing. Keep lawn mower and 4 wheeler in shop full woodworking equipment. I get up everyday savoring each day. I do not have/make deadlines. True blessing. I didn't retire to take on any kind of job. Count your blessings, and spend time with family and grand kids. It's another great day in South Carolina!!!! If you are looking for something to do......get you a 4 wheeler and a couple friends with 4 wheelers and hit the back roads. GREAT FUN!!! YOU NEVER GET TO OLD TO HAVE FUN. DON'T LET THE OLD MAN IN...........STAY ACTIVE!
HAVE GREAT DAY AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

I retired at 72 when the drive home got tom me. I found that I had to keep going or I hatted it. The camera got busier and fond me doing jobs, picked up some cash, improved my cameras and found more things to do.This to me has worked for over 16years.

One simple fact: all the studies show that, on average, the sooner you retire, the longer you live! But, you you need to keep busy. I retired 11 years ago and now I wonder how I ever got anything done when I was still working. Now, every day is Saturday! 😀

I am finally reconciled, at age 86, that I have been forced to retire due to the Covid19 disaster. Up to March I had been happily engaged in my Architectural and Engineering services keeping both mind and body busy. In my humble opinion, if you retired before 85, you would have had to be bored as hell!—-

I actually retired twice. The first time was in 1980 after 20 years of USAF service. I'd have served longer, but circumstances were such that I wouldn't retire at a higher grade (long story), so I stopped at 20 years. I found employment with a large semiconductor manufacturer here in Dallas and worked for them for 24 years, retiring in Jan 2005. I was hired back as a consultant for almost 2 more years, finally ending my working in Dec 2006. Other than answering a few questions about my software, I've not worked a day since. I do (did) see my former coworkers for lunch each month (looking forward to resuming those).

I have filled my time with travel (and associated photography), genealogy, and care of my cats. I have been active in my church and secular music activities, both choral and handbells (all currently curtailed). One hopes that those will resume soon, also.

I retired in 2006 and have decided that retirement is the job I should have gotten from the get go. The heck with the work stuff!

It will pass. One morning you will wake up and that feeling of "Oh, I've gotta go to work" won't be there. You will wake up and smile to yourself and drift off back to sleep for another half hour. The dreams about things at work will slowly fade but never completely go away. I've been retired 4 1/2 years now and I still get work dreams. Oddly, most aren't about the job I retired from but about my early days right out of school when I managed restaurants. The stress and high turnover of that job just about cause me to have a nervous breakdown and even though I left that business over 30 years ago it still comes back to me in dreams once in a while. At least that's how it's been for me.

10MPlayer, I've been fully retired for 14 years and I occasionally have a dream about my former job. They haven't been unpleasant ones, though.
