I bought a Les Paul Standard brand new for no good reason except that I wanted it.

That one I understand. A friend has a black Les Paul (not sure which model) vintage 1964 in excellent condition. It was a gift in 1968. That must be worth a few bucks now. >Alan

Baguettes are pretty common in Vietnam. There’s a big French influence in Vietnamese cuisine.

And strawberry jam. Da Lat City.

I just did an inventory of my photo equipment for insurance purposes and realized that I own 5 Nikon bodies (D5, D850, Z7, D7100 and an IR-converted D3100) and 22 lenses (all but 5 are Nikkors).

I am a journalist and I do use my equipment for work. But I am sure my Z7 with the 24-70 f/4 could take care of 95% of the photos I take for my writing. It might well be human nature, but it's nuts to own so much stuff.

OTOH, if my wife could have 50 pairs of shoes....

Laughing. My girlfriend has over 100. Ridiculous. What's the deal with women and shows? I have 4.

Simple. We look for the perfect lens, and they look for the perfect pair of shoes.

I don't like to apply that kind of rational thinking to it. If I had there are probably a lot of things I would not have done in my life.

Re: Hobbit123 "Do I really need all this gear?" My answer is a definite, No. For, example for ten years I used a Nikon D40 with a Nikkor 55-200mm lens. Some of my favorite photos were taken with that "low end" combination. Since then I have purchased two DX Nikon DSLRs. I have also acquired some basic lenses and two relatively high end lenses. I am in the process of trying to see whether the high end stuff produces better image quality.(I have never used a full frame camera.) I also have two bridge cameras, one of which I really like (Panasonic Lumix FZ300). So, while I have more gear than I need, my money was not wasted. I love my gear and amateur photography is my passion. Davidb1879.

I usually had 5 or 6. All the same. Steel toe boots.

3 of them were rotated daily on the farm. That gave them 2 days to dry out, which was usually enough. 2 or 3 of them were for dress.
The lifetime of a pair of boots on the farm was on the order of 9 months. When a pair wore out (and by "wore out" I meant that they were ripped open or the sole was ripped off), they would be replaced by one of the dress pairs. When I had to go to Sears for something I would buy another pair or two to fill out the dress inventory. Trips to Sears were usually for a battery. I never had a battery last more than 5 years, so with 2 cars, 3 trucks, and 7 tractors, I would go through a couple batteries a year. That would be an opportunity to complete the boot inventory.

If I’m not shooting wildlife (D500 with 200-500) or from a kayak (Lumix G9 with 10-400 and Lumix waterproof P&S) then my Z7 with the 24-70 f/4 is my go to.

In my humble opinion, I don't think you are too likely to improve your photos with a plethora of equipment but if you think you can and you can afford the equipment without too much sacrifice, then go ahead! Have a ball!

I remember back when the Reebok Pumps came out. My mom was having a wedding shower at her house when my brother showed up with his Pumps. She ridiculed him in front of the other women because he paid $100 for a pair of shoes that he said he would only wear to play basketball indoors. I said, “what are you laughing at him for? At least half of these women have paid over $100 for a pair of shoes to go with one outfit!”
