This past Sunday I was waiting on the east bank of the Hudson River, across from Coxsackie, NY, for the USS Slater to come by on its way to the shipyard in Staten Island. To kill time I put my 2x extender on to see the results. The shot of the house was from about 1900' and the people in the park from about 1700'. These were shot JPEG and handheld at relatively low shutter speeds. I adjusted the contrast slightly but otherwise they are untouched.
Considering that I wasn't really trying for good shots I think they came out pretty well for a 2x extender at 800mm handheld.
Yeah, I would say very good . That Canon 100-400 is a stellar lens to say nothing about the EOS R.
Wow, you can read the sign on the dumpster...hand-held, nice.

I agree.....that lens and those extenders are well suited to each other and do excellent work S.O.O.C......thanks man.
Looks like a good combination.

They do seem to work well together and the 2x on the R gives me results about equal in IQ to the same lens with a 1.4x on the 5DIV I used to have. Plus, I have all my autofocus points with the R.

And the USS Slater?
It's called laziness! I just haven't taken the time to look them over and get some posted. I'm going to do that now.
You were also using as adapter ?

Of course. That's the only way you can mount an EF lens or EF extender on an R series body. The adapter is only a spacer. It has no optics so it has no effect on IQ.
