Panasonic's flagship all-weather 4/3 mirrorless 20MP still camera, the g9 has a top of camera digital display. AT $997 new , or my Excellent used at $883 from Amazon Warehouse,
, you can not beat the bang for the buck.

The Sony a7riii does not have a digital display screen on the top of camera, in fact No Mirrorless Camera has a Digital sreen on the top. If l could find a mirrorless camera with a digital display l would sell my Sony a99ii and lenses for the new equipment. The one that comes close to it would be is a Sony RX10M4 but it has a fixed lens. So l will keep what l have.

All my a7xxx and a6x00 models have a large digital monitor easily viewable when looking down at the top plate of the camera ... exactly same as the rear display, VERRRRY exactly (hint hint). I’m surprised you overlooked that ;-)

My DSLRs include a 7D Mark II APS-C camera and two full frames, a 6D and a 5D Mark IV. If I could only have one, it would no doubt be a FF camera. That said, I do like having the APS-C (7D2) option for things like Birds in Flight or sports. One thing I especially like about the 7D2 for action shooting is the relatively fast shutter speed.

Repeat again All Sony Mirrorless cameras that includes the 7x00 and 6x00 cameras Do Not Repeat Do Not have a display on the top right side of camera. All A mount cameras have this display on the top right side of the camera.

Not sure what the big deal is.
I have A-mount cameras...I rarely look at the top display. Everything I need is either in the EVF or the back screen.

A pound of luck isn't worth half as much as a full-frame camera.

I have both because the crop offers me a lighter kit and a fully articulated rear screen.

I shoot a D750 for 90%, but when i need more reach like for wildlife or sports I switch to a DX crop sensor (D7000 or D5500). Well worth it. A crop sensor is likean automatic 1.5x teleconverter without the extra glass to cause loss if IQ.

In a game I would rather have two doubles in a row rather than 1 homer with no men on.

But statistically for the players a home run is worth more. Why? Because as once stated home run hitters drive Cadillacs. Ralph Kiner was told this by a teammate when he contemplated hitting the other way against the shift. Yes they had a shift then too and all cameras had film. Sorry for the digression.

Now, when you mention air shows, one thing I do not like about the electronic view finder on the Olympus system bodies I have, is that there is a pause after you take the shot. I would not be able to follow a moving aircraft and take multiple photos in a continuous stream.

I am in the process of reading Gary Friedman's book on the a99ii (609 pages plus index) and on the issue you mention there are 2(?) different settings for high speed, the lower of which (8 or 10 fps) keeps the view life so you can follow the action constantly instead of getting an image of the picture just taken. I think a 2 fps reduction to keep an eye on fast-moving objects, be them F-35's or peregrine falcons is probably a worthwhile trade-off.

Comment withdrawn. You have repeatedly brought this issue up and I do understand that it is an issue for you but you know the options available that makes the top display unnecessary from prior threads you've engaged in so I withdraw my repeating what others have said on previous occasions.

With the Clear image zoom, can you shoot in Raw?, Does it still work if your subject is off-center?, Does it work with Face Detection?, how about when bracketing or burst shooting?

I'd like to revisit this set of questions briefly. Having observed you in action for the last 9 years, I have little doubt that you, an acknowledged journeyman with this stuff, weren't actually looking for answers to your questions but rather was more interested in shining a light on any perceived flaws in what I said about CIZ more as an effort to discount the significance of what I said so I want to make a point I failed to cover in my original reply to you - When I'm out shooting wildlife with my longest lens and a bear crosses a clearing ahead of me, or a couple of moose or bull elk are fighting just out of reach for the lens I have and instantly I can reasonably double the effective reach of my lens and get a 95% shot without changing anything but hitting a custom function button, the last thing I'm thinking about is if all the "nice but not necessary" features in my camera are working. I'm sure you can appreciate the significance of that with your vast experience and equipment knowledge.

FWIW, my experience (Sony, sold my Nikon gear): I have an a6500 and an a7riv and expected to keep both, rationale being I could carry both, giving me more reach with the 55-210mm on the former and I'd keep a wider lens on the latter. What I found on a recent trip: I used the 55-210 on the a7riv and was happy with the results and even happier when I found that I could use the same camera with the Sony/Zeiss 55mm 1.8 (a very sharp lens) and get a very sharp cropped image as an alternative to using the longer (admittedly not as sharp) lens.

I like the a6500 a lot, but I'm wondering if I still need it or can do what I want with the FF (and 62Mp) and a sharp lens--and avoid carrying two cameras.

I'm in no position for a while (financially), but I'm just curious as to your thoughts/experiences. I've had a Sony a77 for several years, after upgrading form an a330. Last month, in lieu of my cancelled trip to Spain for my birthday, I bought a used a99ii to go with it. The camera will automatically convert to APS-C mode when such a lens is attached or be set to do so in the menu using a FF lens, at which times it turns into an 18 MP camera (the a77 is 24MP). Do the extra 6 MP make any difference in IQ or would I be just carrying extra weight? The large majority of my snaps each year are during airshows. It would be nice not to have to change lenses when I want wide vs tele. To go with the a99ii I also bought a battery grip. I have one APS-C lens and 3 FF lenses. figuring that one day I'd upgrade anyways.

I enjoy both FF Nikon & Fuji XT4 & 100F. I like them all, however, I rarely take out the "big gun" because it is heavy, a pain to drag around and the final product is almost always actually better with the Fuji gear. Having said this, there are many DSLR devotees on this particular forum...

Cheers!
