The cartoon shows the external spare tire. This might make the car an Allstate. Sears sold a version of the Henry J, the Allstate.

I knew immediately what kind of car this is, but the comic strip got it wrong.

Want to take a guess? The name was selected from submissions in a national contest to pick a name.

Speaking of tail fins, how does the term "Dagmars" apply to cars?

Henry J?

I was close, sort of, but no cigar. The Allstate had a working trunk lid, I guess the Henry J did not.

A quick sidenote. "Kai-zar" was the Roman Latin pronunciation of "Caesar". "C" were the "K" sounds as in "Kikeroh" ("Cicero").

Right! In Latin, "Caesar" pronounced "See Zar" or "Kai-Zar" today.

Thanks to all for this learning event.
I guess the Dagmar bumper concept would not go over well in this day of "me too" politically right movement. Remember the tv bra ad; "Am I proud ?"

Yep, although my high school Latin teacher pronounced it "Kai sar" (soft "s").

Small addition here, the "ae" letter combination in Roman Latin was pronounced as "I" and the s was pronounced as the harder s, like the s in sir, not the softer s or z sound.

Also, I have attached a photo of a Henry J that I took at a car and motorcycle show last year. Body looks to be very close to original but the engine is a bit larger, it's a Hemi. Should be able to see the Hemi badge on the side in download.

My Latin teacher worked on actual pronunciation by Romans for his Doctoral thesis. He liked to say that were it not for the Goths, we would not have an idea to their sounds. He insisted on the "Kai-zar". He said that "S" was the "Zee" at those times.

"Awey Gauiz Hulioz Kaizar"!
