Re: Billnikon: Bill, the first image is great. But the second is beyond great. Truly one of the best bird shots I have ever seen. Davidb1879.

David, the second shot is of a Female Great Egret waiting for the male to return to the nest, sadly, he never returned. She waited on the nest for almost a week before leaving, fortunately their were no eggs so no harm done. I shot through a very small opening in the trees, she was a good 60 feet behind the trees I was shooting through. The shot is from my 2018 Wakodahatchee Wetlands collection. It was the featured shot of my 2018 show. I printed it 20X30 framed for the show. When we redid the show this year, we made a metal print of it and I have to tell you the metal print blew the framed print away.
Also, this was a shot that I used the Nikon d4s with the 200-500 lens. I have since sold that camera but have been looking for another one ever since. Really miss that camera.

I have the 200-500 mated with a D500. Great combo. The lens gets heavy handheld. This is esp true with birds/airplanes overhead. And, I just received my copy back after having to replace the focus motor/circuit board. The first copy of the lens I ordered had focus issues. The second was amazing. I find the focus is a bit slow for birds in flight. $550 for the repair. Hopefully, my experience is an anomaly. Even given these experiences - I still love the lens.

I used that 200-500 lens on a D7100 in Africa. It did a superb job. However, it is quite heavy and wouldn't be any fun to carry around one's neck.

I used the 200-500 on my D 7100 with great results. Picked up a new D 500 for a song from some Ding Dong that was going mirror less. Focusing is much faster with the D 500 is the only difference I see.

I also have this combo and use it for birds. Mine was front-focusing but corrected with Fine Tune (+10).
It is heavy to hand hold but monopods and tripods are cumbersome for me with BIFs. You should check its weight vs. your 150-600. The buffer on the D7200 fills fast, my only really complaint for wildlife with this setup.

Contemplating adding the 200-500 Nikkor lens to my collection for nature photography. Have lots of humming birds, monarchs etc to photo and they do not stand still long. Add to that the many flowers and I need something in the 200-500 range. I have a 150-600 sigma and a 18-400 tamron that I use most of the time but need something just a little bit longer than the 400 and lighter than the 150/600. Advice?

My Nikkor 200-500 f5.6 is connected to my D7200 now! Wonderful combo! I find the 200-500 an excellent lens for outdoor portraits! The 200-500 is not all that light in weight but can be used handheld-the attached Canada geese flew over y head. Had slew that heavy glass over my shoulder to capture the shot!

I think for the money the Nikkor 200-500 f5.6 is about the best wildlife glass one could attach to the D7200.
