Saw this bird last night and have no idea what it is. I looked thru my Eastern Birds book and the nearest I can come to it is Immature Green or Night Heron. Possibly a Bittern of some kind. To me the beak & eyes are not quit right for any of the above. Let me know what you think. Notice that he has taken off the crayfishes legs and claws before eating.
Check out the Cornell Ornithology site.

And get their Merlin app.
Retired CPO. By George, I think you got it. Thank you.
Yes tis a Pied Grebe but an immature one. The facial markings make it one of this years crop.

I have the "Picture ID" app on my Android tablet and it has been very helpful in identifying birds.

Yep. Pied Billed Grebe.
This is correct according to my bird ID app.
I agree that it is a Pied Grebe, but in the future, I suggest you get the iNaturalist app for your cell phone. Using the iNaturalist app, take a picture of the bird with your cell phone or take a pic of the picture you took with your camera. Then submit the photo to iNaturalist with the app. It will respond with the kind of bird it is. I've found this app to be very accurate.
So it's a Grebe - but whatever, that second pic is really good - and different.
Nice. Looks like a Grebe, which one I don’t know.
From the first picture, it is hard to tell, but the ones taken "after dinner" are distinctive. Grebe, alright.
