Years ago I had ordered a Minolta flash meter form B&H, who is my prefered camera supply, and it was delivered by UPS. I happened to be home when the driver arrived. When she handed me the package it did not look right, kind of like it had been opened and re-taped. I asked her if she minded if I opened it and she said no. The box contained the OEM box for the meter but there was no meter inside. I refused the delivery and reported it to B&H and they took care of it immediately. My point is that if you can, inspect your packages ASAP. I don't know what difficulty I would have had if I had waited to open the package package without being witnessed by the UPS driver. Kind of made me nervous for the next few purchases. I never found out where, or who was responsible. Sorry if this was too much of a diversion from the subject.

Package from Amazon via UPS. Checked the delivery status: it had been delivered to my front porch. Checked porch, no package. Checked video doorbell, nothing except me going out to look for package.

Saw the UPS truck parked at end of block. Jumped in car, drove down to ask. The UPS driver was in the back of the truck handing packages to a non-uniformed person in a passenger car. UPS driver said package would be delivered shortly, or I could take it now from the passenger car.

When I asked why it had already been recorded as delivered, he said that passenger car didn't have a phone, so UPS driver had recorded all as delivered.

UPS policy or off-the-books setup, can't say. Maybe Amazon contract driver.

Current UPS delivery arrived at UPS distribution center, out for delivery, then arrived at distribution center, out for delivery, then "delayed due to weather (sunny) or natural disaster (none that I felt)". I cringe at UPS, most boxes show some damage.

The USPS might be a day or two slower, but their tracking works, and I KNOW the mailman. Him, I trust.

Around here the Amazon tracking updates every 30 seconds. The driver takes a picture of the package on the porch which is on screen before the driver is back in the truck. It also shows how many stops are ahead of yours. A couple of weeks ago with just 2 stops ahead of mine the truck disappeared from the map. I expanded the map and saw the truck had left our development. Oh well. I tracked it to the local Wawa where it sat for about a half hour and then headed back. I met the driver at the door and asked her if she enjoyed her dinner. She laughed and said, "I really, really, really, needed a bathroom". She figured she might as well take her dinner break while she was there. We never think about the issues that arise for folks whose job keeps them on the road.

FedEx and UPS have agreements with USPS. If you have a PO Box you can address it to you with the post office street address followed by your box number. I do that all the time so I don’t have packages on my porch. And you can always check shipping status with the link that the vendor provideS in your order confirmation.

Those agreements with USPS are, IMO, worthless. I Ordered my new camera (used a99ii) from B&H on June 9th, it shipped the 10th by FedEx and I got it the 13th, 2 days before my birthday. I ordered Gary Friedman's manual on the 13th from Barnes and Noble, it was shipped using UPS Innovations, their partnership with USPS. It was sent out on the 16th, took 3 days to make it to Kansas city (I live near STL and the book came from the Nashville, TN suburbs). The next day it was in Belleville, IL, probably within walking distance from my house. From there, it went, for no apparent reason, to Des Moines, IA!!!!! On the 25th It was back in MO, just across the river from me and was delivered the next day. Almost 2 weeks to get a package sent from a little over 300 miles away. BN packed up a replacement on the 25th and sent it regular UPS (although I told them to send it by mail)...I will get it today. I already have a return label on the original package (unopened).

I live 10 miles from Baldwin Park and the area is NOT rural. Similar to another poster's experience, the UPS truck was "in my area" on the map, then at 18:30, it disappeared. So much for a "by 21:00" delivery. Perhaps he missed his rendezvous with the non-uniformed delivery car...

Package from Newegg on the same truck... it too disappeared into the void...

Foolish me, one would think given it's 10 miles away, they'd be delivered the next day. Ha, ha... Just received a new delivery date from UPS, both packages will be delivered in 2 days (they think). I could WALK to the distribution depot and back in that time. I'll take an Amazon Prime driver or an On-trak delivery anytime.

I understand stuff happens; it's the lack of/misleading information that's aggravating. One would think that an accurate tracking system would be in place, rather than blaming "weather (sunny, 80 degrees) or natural disaster". Don't they have more choices of entries? And (it seems) the automatic "out for delivery" messages is just annoying...

Ref to SAME package:
e-mail 6/29/2020, 22:02
Rescheduled Delivery Date: Tuesday, 06/30/2020
Estimated Delivery Time: 02:00 PM - 06:00 PM

e-mail 6/29/2020, 23:45
Rescheduled Delivery Date: Wednesday, 07/01/2020
Estimated Delivery Time: 02:00 PM - 06:00 PM

With all this travel, I'm just glad Amazon has free returns as the potential condition of the package is of concern, given it's electronics...

I would have called the first day and if UPS was non-responsive I would have called Amazon. UPS jumps when they call because it’s a big chunk of their business.

My only issue with B&H is that every time I start thinking about some photographic-related item and go to their website they Always have it and I can't get away with "not finding it and then not buying it". Thanks B&H for having such a great inventory and being on top of all the details. Have a good and safe 4th-to B&H and UHH folks as well.

There is another thread complaining about B&H that is ancient and going on 54 pages. I'd like to change the subject slightly. Last Tuesday, the 23rd I ordered a camera from B&H. It was just delivered to me by FedEx. How could anybody complain about either B&H or FedEx? NY/NJ to central Wisconsin in 4 days. Good job by both companies. Awhile back I did think I had a problem with B&H but before a day went by I had two phone calls from them- problem solved, my misunderstanding. Atta boy to two fine companies...

I just had a problem with a FEDX delivery from B&H. A pair of $1500 binoculars was supposedly delivered and signed for, but the package never arrived. I searched the front porches of every neighbor on my block. After contacting B&H, I was told that FEDX was often stating that someone signed for something, when no one did. Supposedly FEDX is not requiring signatures because of the pandemic.

FWIW, FedEx says, "Signature suspension notification.
To help promote the safety of our employees and customers, FedEx signature guidelines are being temporarily adjusted for all shipments within the United States, with the exception of adult signature required (ASR) shipments. In efforts to minimize physical interactions, customers may be asked to verify recipient name in lieu of a physical signature. FedEx is still collecting recipient information..."

But B&H customer service was superb, letting me know that one way or another, I would get my binoculars.

Thank you. I appreciate this.

A few days before Christmas 2019 I ordered a Canon lens from B&H with free overnight shipping. NY/NJ to Cochise, AZ overnight. All I could say than and all I can say now was/is WOW!!! With my location well off the beaten path I wasn’t sure the lens would be there overnight. Very surprised and pleased. Wasn’t my first order and won’t be my last. B&H and FEDEX; great partners and great service.
