I just noticed you are located in North Texas. One of the other members in the Plano area reported a good report of his service. I suspect by your attitude that you are not a real Texan and probably a transplant from one of the screwed up states. If so, please go back. You bring Texas and us native Texans a bad smell.
Most sincerely;
bruce.

Wow. Pretty mean if I may say so and just because I don't like the USPS. I heard people were nicer in Texas except maybe one.

Me pretty mean ! well maybe I was but I was reacting to YOUR mean comment about our postal service. If yours is not good then you should talk to the manager and tell them your problems. Whenever I had a problem I did and they were more than willing to fix it. Only once this happened to me but still, as you have read the numerous replies here, most are very positive.
If you do not like our postal service, good for you and then go without it.
So you 'heard' people in Texas are nicer. We sure are too compared to where you probably came from. You admitted my thought, you are a transplant. We are nicer here but too many people have and are still flooding into our lovely state and ruining it. They ruin their state so they bail out and move here and bring their shitty habits with them. Not all are like this but too many. Austin is now a Marxist shithole, it used to be a beautiful bicycle town. Dallas is now a shithole and God help us, Ft. Worth looks like it is heading this way too.
So, if I am the only mean guy in Texas, this is a blessing for Texas and very good.
Incidentally, where are you from ?
Your native Texas neighbor, Bruce.

My one complaint, which I wish could be resolved, is that at least here in Raleigh, you can no longer reach the Postmaster directly. In place of the local office numbers, there is now a universal 800 number to the National call center. The last time I tried that, I gave up after a 45 minute wait. Do any of the former or current USPS employees on the thread happen to know of an alternative to reach to local postmaster with issues or compliments?

Oh my, here last year I called our local post office and got the big guy. He actually got in his car and went to house where my package got delivered too by accident. Got it all worked out. So as others have noted here on this thread, it is for sure a local or regional issue. Have you or can you just go to the post office ?
I hope you get a get number and get it all worked out.
Bruce

Hi:

We can keep discussing and complaining about this issue and that issue at some place (which are all true and real) but the real issue is that Trump and the current Republicans are bent of destroying the Postal service and replace it with private carriers. Remember Reagan’s famous words “Government is the problem”.
Of course if we privatize it, the rates will definitely go. Based on the complaints about service from other private carriers (FedEx and UPS) we are seeing here, it is not clear that the service will improve. One thing is for sure, the profits of the private companies will go up and their donations to the Republican party will go up.

On the other hand, if we funded the postal service properly, allowed them to raise the postal rates on their own instead of the Government interfering, and hired the qualified management (and not the friends of friends of the president and senators) the postal service can operate fine.

I have had two careers in my 79 years on this planet. First, 20 years in banking, both retail and corporate, the last 43 years in freight/logistics as a private provider, mainly in road and airfreight. I have observed incompetence at the highest levels in both industries, and this has occasionally descended to middle and local management levels. As other posters have mentioned, you get the occasional bad apple in any industry, along with the unbelievably incompetent. Not wishing or intending to politicize this, but in my country (Australia) the latter often receive support from their union.

Our postal carrier is Australia Post, and they cop a terrible bagging regarding their performance levels. Invariably, this bagging comes from those with no idea of the logistics involved, along with indications they would have great difficulty operating a hot dog stall at the local junior footy.

Outside of our 5 state capitals and about a dozen regional cities, we have about 1 million citizens spread over a land area equivalent in size to the contiguous USA. Many of these citizens live in extremely (I mean EXTREMELY) remote locations and receive a weekly mail delivery. Sometimes one of them will complain regarding a slow delivery when investigation reveals they would be unable to personally courier the delivery any quicker.

Now, a few local issues that may, or may not, be experienced in the USA:
1. The shipper blames the carrier for the delay, even though the goods have not been shipped! A not uncommon occurrence both in residential and commercial shipments;
2. Goods shipped in damaged condition. This is very difficult to prove, but it does happen. Have personally proved it with shorthaul shipments, much to the embarrassment of the shipper. And sometimes losing that shipper's business!;
3. Incorrectly addressed packages - sometimes the incompetence of the shipper, sometimes the purchaser (usually a typo);
4. Unfulfilled orders - orders not correctly picked - blame the carrier. Was the package intact and undisturbed when delivered? This is time consuming to sort out, and sometimes difficult to convince the end user that no, the carrier did not open the package and remove the unshipped item. Oh, and the shipper never ever makes a packing mistake, never!

At the end of the day, I give a great thumbs up to Australia Post and its performance, even though I operated as a competitor. Their performance is similar to that of my own organization - TOP NOTCH!

The post office has a long history of working ‘people with disabilities’, and as far as I understand, that has not changed.

For example, our Youth Group at church included a young man with MS {birth accident}. He could not drive, of course, but the PO hired him right out of HS. For years, he shuffled between street collection mailboxes downtown on foot, in all kinds of SB Winter. Some would question that, but he still had a regular paycheck coming in, and when his “sainted” Mother died, was never a ‘burden on the system’, and eventually collected earned retirement himself.

I have seen a few posts about the poor service from our postal service recently. Looking at the locations of these poor reports I can understand.
I am in North Texas I can most assuredly tell you all our postal service is THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!
If I recall here maybe some members who are either currently Postal workers or retired Postal workers.
Either way, I am posting my appreciation to our United States Postal Workers.OK.
Yes they are humans just like us and subject to the usual BS we had to deal with. But, go to any other country in the world and live there and find out what your postal service is like there.
Ok, all you Hoggers out there around the world. Go ahead and chine in.
All I can tell you is that the postal service here is damn good especially when I talk to my friends in other countries.
So, bitch all you want but appreciate what you have.
My words are true,
Bruce

An added addition to this popular post I made.
A few days ago I typed up a letter of appreciation to our postal workers. I made about 30 copies before the ink ran out. I also placed several Bible tracks of a few topics I think are appropriate. I have several in envelopes to hand to the drivers, I have most in the big folder which I will take to the local post office for all the staff as possible can have this.
I am not beating my chest, but since I made this post I wanted to follow up the walk behind the talk.
While on this, I have been working on and giving out envelopes with a prayer card, bible tracks and a letter of appreciation to the local police officers and officers in other cities I travel too. They do appreciate this and really need the token of appreciation, especially these days.
I have the same I will be working on for the fire fighters too.
So, just posting something here is just sharing with 'the family' what I have already been doing.
I feel offering life giving and positive honest offers of appreciation where I think it is deserved is the right thing to do even on this site.
