I have been struggling with the library module of LR3 and have made every mistake a human can. It comes very slowly, but if you keep at it and figure out all the little "clicks" that are not evident it slowly becomes clear and really works well for me.
It's sorta like learning a musical instrument. Work with it for a while then take a break. Focus one little aspect that does not appear to work or looks impossible, and check the internet, lots of good info on LR there

I bought it and I don't think much of it. Having used Photoshop and Elements for a few years, I wondered how Adobe could come up with such a loser.
However, with the help of Julianne Kost's blog; more than
Scott Kelby's book, I am learning to use it. Compared to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, a waste of money; unless you like cataloging stuff.
If you want the best book on the subject; 'The Abode Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book' by Martin Evening.

LightRoom is worlds ahead of PhotoShop (Bridge / Mini-bridge) in its ability to categorize and apply relevant metadata to RAW images. It is far ahead of Elements in its ability to post-process images. It is intended for professionals and high volume enthusiasts and works seamlessly with PhotoShop.

It is a great product but it does have a learning curve. Agree that Julianne's videos and blog are a big help.

Don't give up on it if you are ever going to be saving images in the thousands - it's a lifesaver.

So from what I've been reading on this post which has been very helpfull by the way, LR3 stores and cataloges all your photos after you import them and process them. Right now I use PS Elements9 and after I am finished with my processing cycle I always clear all nmy pictures off my computer and back them up on an external drive.

So it seems to me after reading these posts that LR3 keeps all those thousands of pictures you imported on my computer's hard drive. That's alot of space being used up for many pictures that I won't be going back to on a regular basis.
