I'm tempted to post a picture of what I call my best "camera bag". She picked that out too. It is 24 feet long, gets 15 mpg. There are dedicated camera storage bins.

The "excuse" for the new RX10 comes because we've scheduled a trip to Utah and on through Yellowstone and into Montana.

Congratulate her on her choice, and on her photos. When you say something to her like, "Wow! Your photo is better than mine!", you both win. Happy wife, happy life!

You are making me laugh! There is no question that her photos are frequently better than mine. She can direct her whole brain around composition. I'm constantly fighting to dampen my gadget brain long enough to be creative.

My wife recently bought her first dslr, a Canon 5Dmk4. So I bought her a Canon 24-105 and a Canon 400 f4 DO. And her pictures are amazing. Enjoy your hobby together.

We've been enjoying photography together for 52 years (so far)! At one point we had two Nikons and 9 lenses (15 to 500). My wife now sees big gear as a hindrance to good composition and creativity.

That is an awesome camera with that 24-600mm range. My buddy that I go shooting g with has this fine camera.. I would love as a second camera..

This morning she woke up with a financial guilt problem and threatened to cancel the order.

I cut a deal! "We" agreed to keep the order going and, if she doesn't like it, she will let me have it! I've said it more than once, if all my gear was lost or stolen, I would start over with a Sony RX10!

Maybe there is some "cake and eat it too" here!

Stop fretting over it. Your wife is very smart and she has a discerning taste for a very versatile camera. I gave that same exact model as a gift to my daughter for baby shower and now I am enjoying every bit of my 5 month old granddaughter's divine smiles and short video clips.

I had no idea she was lusting after a camera.

Minutes ago my (wonderful) wife pushed the order button at B&H. Will she regret it?

More importantly, will I regret it? Will her Yellowstone (and other) wildlife images be better than mine? This is challenging.

What do I do now?

Encourage her, now not all the pressure is on you to bring on the bacon, I mean photos.

Seriously, I encourage my wife. She knows little about photography and is happy with her iphone X. While her knowledge of technical photography may be lacking, she has an excellent creative eye. And of course, the iphone is always with her, wherever we go.

She has created a number of really stunning images would make any photographer proud. Her images certainly give strength to the argument that proper composition and creativity play a major part in the making of a good image.

I have a few! The wildlife kit is a Panasonic GX8 with a Panasonic 100-400 lens. I'm lusting for the Panasonic G9.

With the 100-400 in place, I use a Panasonic LX-100 for the wide to medium range.

Her new Sony will have a 600mm equivalent. Mine has an 800mm equivalent!!

Great camera! I own one. While you’re changing lenses she will not have to
and if she uses Sony’s Clear Image Zoom on the Sony RX10M4 she will have a 1200mm lens! And it works Beautifully!

I own this camera, and it is amazing. I have pro level canon gear, but this camera gets picked up most when I randomly want the shot. Sometimes I have two cameras out, and if shooting the same subject with both cameras, often the keepers are shot with this honey of a camera. Prepare to be humbled😜

My wife often takes better pictures with her phone than me with my $2k camera gears.

Except mine co-opted all my L lenses and 7D camera.
Left me with the 10D and some very old a bit lesser lenses.

She made a great choice. Now what will you do if her pictures are better than yours?

If my sony rx10iii had a larger sensor and bulb setting I wouldn't need another camera. As it stands it only gets used about 60% of the time. great cameras!

Now, it should be readily apparent why I never encouraged my wife to take up golf. Since the B&H button has already been pushed, your only recourse other than sucking it up and moving on is to get your own. Or, join her and improve together. What a dilemma.... 🤔
