I have used Backblaze for a couple of years now and really like it.

Remind me to comment on Carbonite in two weeks. I am in the midst of reinstalling on a new Mac computer and it is taking forever due to all my photos and the slow internet speed in rural N.H. I screwed up the first attempt but now it is being supervised by the folks at Carbonite so I know they will give personal attention. They back up only the files, not the applications for Apple products.

I also commented yesterday in another post that it took me four days to restore from Carbonite. I still use Carbonite, but would only use it as a last resort if my external local backup was destroyed/not working for some reason.
I mainly use Acronis to do system backups and restores, which take me less than an hour to restore, INCLUDING applications.

I use Idrive. 5 t storage no real limit on the number of devices. I am not sure they still have it, but I got an intro price of 13.95 for I think two years.

More and more I’m thinking I need to do more than just my external hard drive for backup. I’m leaning toward BackBlaze or Carbonite but I need to do more research on both. What I’m curious about is file structure preservation and LR catalogues. Do they preserve my file structure/folders and the LRcat that goes with them? What about ease of use? I’m not the most tech savvy of users. Thanks in advance!

I use Backblaze and love it but also have a 5 slot Drobo.

I agree with Bob - but I also use Backblaze as $60 per year is cheap off site insurance. Backblaze will backup what ever you point it to.

I am thinking about this also but I have a couple of questions. I have almost nothing on my computer but what I do in photography. If it's not related to photography what is on the computer is almost nil. So if I go with BaclBlaze is it easy to install and use?

I've been using Backblaze for awhile now. They've got about 8 TB of my stuff, documents, images, etc. About six months ago, one of two 4 TB drives failed, as did an 8 TB drive I used for backup. I could download files from Backblaze, but downloading 8 TB could have taken a lifetime on my internet connection. They sent me a copy of the 4 TB drive on a hard drive, for which they charged me; after copying the images to my new hard drive, I sent it back to them for a full refund. The whole deal cost me about $30 to insure the return, and almost a week without my most recent images. I call myself a satisfied customer.

That’s a successful recovery and a good story. Shows AGAIN why a 3rd off-site disaster recovery copy of your data is vital, but only if your data (which you likely spent thousands on equipment to produce) is important to you. Congratulations on your foresight.

Backblaze all the way - unlimited uploads for $6/Month (used to be $5). I had to restore from them. Sent me an hard drive with all the backups, easy peasy..

Go with BackBlaze. Carbonite is just a dietary restriction.

Very wise. Without cloud backup you are not protected from loss. I have used Carbonite for years. About $75 annually with no data limit, and your folder structure is preserved. Great company.
