Where My Peanuts Go

I put out peanuts in the shell for the Jays & Woodpeckers. But most of them are gotten by the squirrels (when my dog is napping) or crows and ravens. Now the squirrels just take and eat them. But the crows and ravens go to the water dishes and bird bath and soak them, crack them and leave the shells in the water while splashing most of it out so I have to go out and clean and refill the water dishes. Not to mention replace the peanuts. I buy the big bags at Costco, the birds like them and if I get the munchies I can eat them also (I buy one bag of salted ones for me.)
This crow took off when I positioned my tripod in the doorway to get shots of it splashing in the water with a peanut. You can see water drops on the feathers and a peanut with one side cracked open and the other intact. I tried tracking the bird as it went from the dish across the yard and up to the power lines and this was the best frame I got. I didn't have my red dot mounted for tracking so it was look over the top of the camera/lens and guesstimate. One big problem was the black bird against the blue sky - I had to work to bring up any details and that produced noise. Yes the bird is starting to reach for the power line with it's feet. I cloned out the line and a bunch of connector and bracing wires - not a really good cloning job, but I got rid of them.
80D, Tamron 150-600 G2 @ 309 (when it was at the water dish I backed off the zoom in case he spread his wings), 1/1000 @ f/8.0, ISO-160 because the spot meter setting got mostly sky. Range to the power pole is 75' and the lines are 40+ feet up.

Didn't get any pictures but when I put out peanuts we get about 10 Scrub Jays immediately. They come make a loud racket and pick up the peanuts take them to the lawn and hide them, then come back for another until they are all gone never eating a single one. They then come back later to find the nuts and eat them.

I only get 1-3 at a time. While I watch they will pick up every peanut and finally take one. Then come back and if nothing else gets them they will eventually take all of them. And until they get to the last one they go through the "which one seems best" routine.

I think you did great on this one. I never would have known there were wires there if you hadn't mentioned it.

Thanks, just for fun here is the OOC.

I always wanted to put one of those giant transparent watermarks.

Yes, it took a while. I just got stubborn about it even though it isn't that great a photo but I had the story line ready and wanted to use it.
It was largely the challenge to see how much I could improve the image.

I put them out for the squirrels. They won't touch the bread any more unless I throw peanuts out for a few days. I use to see the Blue Jays take them but, there not around anymore.

I have the same problem but with scrub jays...they bully the other birds and hide the peanuts in my lawn. Fun to watch them though...keep feeding them, Bob!!
