Ive ask that very same questions any number of times. Time & practice will tell, add desire and the horizons are limitless, but above all, take the picture YOU like, and just keep right on taking them. If your doing that, you are already a good photographer.

a real photographer is like an actor the ability to be able to pursue photography carries more gratification in doing it than being a photographer. all artist,s want to create and time they will grown but you must put the cart before the horse.

How do you know you're not a successful photographer until a clerk at Walmart refuses to print your images?

You’re on target. The film era measure of success was one per roll on average.

Acoarst there will be those needing to know “what kind of roll ?”, “what kind of subject ?”, “what purpose or standards ?”

It’s people who believe that type of questions to be important who will NEVER get good at photography. They will never get beyond “focus, exposure, and composition”.
Does it matter to you that this thread was created in October 2011 and that neither person you quoted has commented on UHH for six to eight years? Just curious 🤔

It depends on how you define good. Like with any art form, 99+% of us will never be great. We may occasionally get a very good, lucky shot. We may advance our technique to be better than almost everyone who is taking pics with a smartphone. Will we ever be good? Once in a while.

Thanks for the timely headzup. I was sloppy. Not really into zombies...

Since we can’t delete posts I’m glad you were so quick. I still had time to empty them out.

The OP jumped back into the thread today at 1:26PM, before your posts.

The OP announced in Intro Forum that she is back, and is catching up, I guess. The two people User ID quoted and most of the others who commented in this thread in 2011 have been gone from UHH for many years.

I wonder what she'll make of Chg_Canon's comment today 🙄

Not too long ago, maybe last year...I had to convince them it was my work...actually had to show them the photo before and after....shaking my head. My local wally knows who I am now. Lol!

I have had a pro tell me to keep shooting, practicing, and if I consider it art and I like it...that is all that matters. Everyone has their opinion of what is good to them.
