One more question, is this happening when the lens is mounted on a solid tripod and you are focusing on a stationary test chart?

It is a great lens, very underrated in my view as it is a practical lens in terms of weight and focal lengths for wildlife travel photography, but it Does need good light otherwise it will hunt focus and chatter!
I have yet to put it on a tripod, I will do so. I did put the the camera in group focus, and it did help.
