We have been going to Sisters Oregon every July since 2010 with the exception of 2018 when we were cruising the Norwegian Sea (a reasonable excuse). We have also been to Sisters in the late fall and early winter. My wife is a quilter, and they have the largest outdoor quilt show in the country in Sisters on the second Saturday in July, as well as classes the previous week with instructors from as far away as Australia. Sisters is in Central Oregon in the high desert, at an altitude of 3,182 feet. It is on U.S. Route 20, about 19 miles west of Bend and 44 miles from Mt. Bachelor, a major ski area. It is a beautiful little town and we look forward to our annual trip there. We have always stayed at the Five Pine Lodge, a beautiful place with friendly people and great service. There are 8 rooms in the main lodge building and many cabins. When my wife is at quilting classes, I relax, read, walk, go for drives, and take photos. The surrounding area is volcanic (part of the Ring of Fire) and is an interesting area to explore. Bend is a beautiful town and we almost always have at least one meal there; the Pine Tavern Restaurant is a favorite. If you like craft beer, Bend and Portland are usually rated as the two top places in the country for it and the Three Creek micro-brewery is on the Five Pine campus. Unfortunately, they cancelled the quilt week this year due to COVID 19, but we moved our reservation to 2021 and are looking forward to getting back. The drive from our part of the Bay Area is very nice, once you get past Red Bluff. It’s an easy one-day drive of 500 miles up I-5 and U.S. 97. We always look forward to the drive past Mt. Shasta, which I will post photos of in the third set. The skies were amazing this trip, even better than usual. I hope you enjoy the photos.
