I took many thousands of satisfying pics with mine and my wife took it over. We got caught in a windshift at Beehive Geyser at YNP and when we ran, it banged against the l-plate of my D850, broke the glass and got wet and is no longer usable. The D7500 is excellent.

Congratulations Dr. Bob. I have a D7100 and the only complaint I have is the small buffer. My D7200 has a much larger one.

"...the only complaint I have is the small buffer..." cripples it for sports/wildlife etc...
The best I've gotten is a 1 second burst (14bit RAW) of 5 images... and it's buffer is painfully slow to empty to even a pricey fast SD card...

I have the D7100 and still shoot it... albeit in bright daylight or with studio strobes...
It has an image quality issue: the banding in the deep shadow detail on it's Toshiba sensor...
This is all too real and the D7200 with it's (purported) Sony sensor fixed the issue entirely...

But don't take my word for it... I'm just a commercial shooter with precious little time for testing kit.
So why don't you do a deep dive on Thom Hogan's evaluation... he actually gets recompense for his reviews...

Please enjoy your kit Bob... it's 24megapixel 14bit RAW files are more than enough for even the most demanding clients. I carry my D7100 with an AF-P 70-300mm attached (the DX variant) and I'm pleased with what it can capture (in bright daylight). Set Auto ISO to max out at 3200 which is pushing IQ to the limit (in my humble estimation).

Way to go, love my D7100 and just bought a D780 but at times I think I would like to have 2 cameras of the same style so you don't have to remember where a button is in a hurry!

"...so you don't have to remember where a button is in a hurry!" This! In order to shoot commercially you absolutely have to be able to change settings by reflex... Being on set and having to look at your camera's menu system is the kiss of death... your team members will not be impressed and likely search for a more competent crafts person to collaborate with...

FYI: Pro bodies (at least Nikon) place critical controls on the body so one can change settings by feel NOT by sight... I have two D3's and D3x's for that very reason... and you can still purchase refurbished D3x's by Nikon... they are epic for commercial work! B&H recently had the D3x refurbs on sale for $2000 Trust me, they are serious working tools... After working on set for 10 hours with a D3x and then picking up a D7100 it feels like a plastic toy in comparison... enough said

BTW the D700 is still widely used by wedding pros... same reason... all critical controls are easily accessed by feel on it's body not via an awkward cumbersome menu system...

by the same token if you shoot commercially and are using PhotoShop to create client deliverables you seriously need to drive PS with keyboard shortcuts... not simply Ctrl S to save... virtually all settings, functions etc are available via keyboard shortcuts... I rarely use my mouse or stylus pen to drive PS... Keyboard shortcuts rule... Not a touch typist? Oh well, you are swimming upstream... good luck... and if you're not using a graphics tablet then look into Wacom to take your retouching entirely to the next level... all the best on your journey...

Dr. Bob: I bought a used D7100 in late 2018. It had fewer than 10K shutter activations and came with a battery pack/vertical grip, two batteries and some other small but useful items. It cost me $620 and I love the camera.I can understand why you are so happy having acquired that camera from your brother.

This will actually be my 3rd acquisition of a 7100 ..and give me 2 of them along with my D850 ..I had a D800E and a D810 along the way as well ..I do not own a single DX lens to my name and use all FX on All my camera bodies .., with the 8 different photo editing programs I use ..I can do amazing things with FX on a 7100 ..
A couple of examples Shot from last week ..
