My newest camera, Nikon D7500, apparently requires an updated raw processing program (version 9.12 I believe) The program for my D800 and D7100 apparently won't open the pictures. I'm using a Mac. I can't seem to figure out how to update my program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have photoshop CS6

No can do. Rather, download the free DNG converter from Adobe and process your new camera raw to Adobe's universal format. Then, import the DNGs into CS6 for processing. The process runs relatively quickly in batch, and is really just a minor additional step to your workflow. Consider retaining the original RAW files in the future event you move to a RAW editor that supports these RAW files directly.

if you want to continue opening raw files directly in PhotoShop rather than converting them to DNG format first, as suggested by CHG_CANON, you will have to subscribe to PhotoShop CC.

I use the Adobe DNT converter all the time. Works great. It is just an additional step. No biggy.

This option exists and it does work.

Subscribe to Adobe's Photography plan. Easy-peasy. CS6 is no longer supported, will never be updated to work with new cameras an lenses, and is beyond its end of life as a viable product. It's 8 yrs old - and the photography world has moved on.

Using a dng converter is a great approach to use on a limited basis, like when a new camera hits the stores and Adobe has not yet updated their raw converter. But I would not do it long term. It's fine if you never see yourself using any other software, but since dng is far from a universal file format, you will have a hard drive full of dng images that at the present can only be read by a tiny handful of software. If you go dng, then DO NOT DELETE the original raw files.

YOu don't mention what version of OSX you are using. Macs, unlike Windows machines, have conversion built into the OS itself, so with each update newer camera models are added to the list.

But that said, I agree that it's time for you to get on the subscription bandwagon; it is the most effective approach.

Do the Adobe free trial before you subscribe. But, before you do, watch YouTube or read about the new features and tools so that you can "test" them. There are some great new sliders in the ACR module and the "content aware" capabilities are (for lack of better words) amazing.

Use Nikon's RAW converter Capture NX-D and save as a 16 bit tiff file. It's free and does an excellent conversion. No need to subscribe when you can continue to use the editor you have.

Yep - that's totally true. And, if you're an active Photoshop user, you'll find a lot of new features there. Also, you'll get Lightroom Classic, which, to me, is worth the money by itself.

Tried that a while for my Z6. Found it frustrating so caved in to the subscription. New features make it worth while.
